Thankful for my Kindle as I sit beside my husband while he recovers from his ATV accident 🙄

Carry the Dog is the story of Bea who, along with her twin brothers, was the subject of controversial nude photos taken by her artist mother.

Now, as a 60 year old woman, Bea must decide if she wants to make money from her mother's work or work on putting the past behind her.

AmyG Oh no. I hope he is doing well. My husband just had a bike accident. So hope YOU are also doing well. 2y
Megabooks I hope he heals up soon. This was definitely an interesting book! 2y

4.5?
"I do feel like part of my soul was stolen by my mother's camera. I do feel cursed."

A hard hitting story about the toll making art takes and the tough realities of the human condition. I was deeply immersed in this one! Though a tough read at times, I found Gangi did a excellent job bringing these characters alive in the pages, especially Bea. An absorbing read. I am surprised that this book hasn't gotten more attention. Although it deals with tough topics about childhood exploitation, suicide, & strained relationships there is something really hopeful about the book. The writing is beautiful & the main character Bea, gives me Evelyn Hugo vibes. I really enjoyed this book & the way the author deals with discussing the lasting impact of childhood abuse. ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

This was a dark, thought-provoking novel, and another reason I love books from Algonquin!

Bea‘s artist mother took a series of controversial nude photos of her and her twin brothers when they were kids. When both MoMa and a Hollywood producer approach her about a retrospective on her long-dead mother, she has to confront her dad and the brother she lost touch with all while dealing with her shady rock star ex and a daughter-figure roommate.

Cinfhen Hmmm, very intrigued 2y
Cinfhen Was the audio narration good?? 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yes it was! 2y
Hooked_on_books Is this modeled after/inspired by Sally Mann? 2y
Megabooks @Hooked_on_books I had to look up that artist, but yes, there are definitely similarities. 2y

I felt totally enraptured by this something of a coming-of-age story as Bea, on the cusp of 60, comes to terms with her past. Daughter of a famous & controversial photographer, ex-wife twice over to a rock star, lyricist & writer, Bea‘s life is defined by the haunting & disturbing nude photos that made her mother famous. About trauma, moving on & a real reckoning, I really couldn‘t put this one down! I am looking forward to reading more from her!
