In the sleepy college town of Zenobia, New York, the only supernatural trace on display is the name of Gwen Engels businessAbracadabra Odd Job Service. But Gwens family has some unusual abilities theyve been keeping under wrapsuntil one little letter spells big trouble . . . Nearly a century ago, Gwen Engels great-great-grandfather cast a spell with catastrophic side-effects. As a result, the Grand Council of Witches forbade his descendants from practicing witchcraft. The Council even planted anonymous snitches called Watchers in the community to report any errant spellcasting . . . Yet magic may still be alive and not so well in Zenobia. Gwen and her cousins, Trudy and Milo, receive a letter from Gwens adopted sister, Tannith, informing them that shes bewitched one of their partners and will run away with him at the end of the week. While Gwen frets about whether to trust her scientist boyfriend, currently out of town on a beetle-studying trip, shes worried that local grad student Jeremy is secretly a Watcher doing his own research. Cousin Trudy is so stressed that she accidentally enchants her cupcakes, creating havoc among her bakery customersand in her marriage. Perhaps its time the family took back control and figured out how to harness their powers. How else can Gwen decide whether her growing feelings for Jeremy are realor the result of too many of Trudys cupcakes? . . .

A cute and fun tale of a group of cousins (the “Cupcake Coven”) from a family of witches that have been banned from using magic and what happens when that magic can no longer be contained. Billed as a rom-com, but the romance is more secondary to the witchy shenanigans. Fun if you don‘t overthink it and just enjoy the ride. Best character is obviously Griz, the cat 🐈‍⬛; his POV chapters were my favorites. Will likely check out the sequel sometime

“This news made us all shift uncomfortably. Even if we were successful transforming Laird, it appeared we would have our work cut out for us trying to get Esme back. And if we *couldn‘t* get her back, it would only be a matter of time until the Council found out about all of this and came after us.”

“After he ended the call, I started to press the icon next to Trudy‘s name on my contact list. I stopped before my index finger could touch the screen. No doubt Trudy and Milo had received the Tannith letter by now. But on the off chance that Trudy hadn‘t, maybe I could get to her place in time to save her the agony of opening that mint-green envelope and being blindsided by its poisonous contents.”

I enjoyed this one that I picked to start off an audiobook marathon that's going on in one of my book groups. Just a fun fluffy read. I loved the cousins together and Esme. It's just a standalone as far as I'm aware but I wish the author would write more.

If you‘re looking for a purely fluff read, with witches, this is probably a good choice. It was not overly spectacular, but it was enjoyable, and I had fun listening to it. The dual narrators cover two specific MCs, so that added to the fun. Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced listening copy!

The overall story was cute and satisfying, however in the scheme of things I don‘t think it will be very memorable to me. This is a great book as a placeholder until you figure out what you want to read next.

🎧 I loved this book! I had so many reservations before jumping in! Not my genre! I must have been in the mood for an obvious Rom-Com good time! This was a light-hearted fun book that I finished in one sitting.

It‘s exactly what it says it is!!! It‘s funny, tropey, madcap fun!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👇🏻

Twainy An adopted sister sends 3 cousins a letter that says she‘s moving to NYC & stealing one of their men to go with her. She‘s a great antagonist, I hated her LOL she‘s been a life long torturer for her adopted sister & was so mean to her cat.

All three of the cousins have reasons to suspect their man might be the one & each one will convince you in time that their‘s is the one!

Twainy The family has been cursed for over 100 years due to a mix up so the entire family is forbidden to use any magic. When magic is accidentally performed it‘s just the first of many hilarious accidents.

If you like silly madcap rom-cons with a little obvious miscommunication (no real YA angst), magic & a bit of a mystery then you might also enjoy this book. It really made me smile. It must be the book I didn‘t know I needed.
