The Couple Upstairs
The Couple Upstairs: An addictive psychological thriller with a gripping twist | Shalini Boland
8 posts | 6 read | 9 to read
Our new home was supposed to be a chance to leave our past behind. But was moving here the worst mistake of our lives? All our friends and family were gathered, glasses raised to toast our fresh start. It should have been a night for happiness and celebration. Zac and I had worked so hard for this: our first home together, just minutes from the sea. But the dream quickly turned into a nightmare Wed invited our neighbours too. I wanted to make a good impression to show them were exactly the sort of people they want living on their street. I hadnt thought about who they might be, the strangers I was letting in. It was going so well. There was laughter in the air and the wine was flowing. But then I noticed the narrowed eyes, the whispers. And then the lights went out. As my heart thumped in my chest, all the little things that had been going wrong since we moved here flashed through my mind: the food poisoning, the arguments, the flood of nasty reviews shaking my business. Am I going crazy? Or is someone trying to destroy us? From the USA Today bestselling author Shalini Boland comes an absolutely heart-thumping psychological thriller with a twist you wont see coming. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl and The Wife Between Us. Readers love Shalini Boland: WHAT A THRILLER!!!! caused me sleepless nights because I couldn't put it down!! Soft pick.

After a young couple buys a new house together, things slowly start to unravel.

This one was only okay for me, definitely not my favorite by this author. I didn't connect with the characters and the plot just didn't have the stakes necessary to hook me and invest me in the outcome, but this book comes highly rated/recommended, so while I found it underwhelming, many readers found it thrilling.

3.5 rounded up.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Shalini Boland's books just never disappoint me. This is another captivating thriller that had me wanting to snuggle up at night reading it in the dark, fully enveloped in the creepiness that just kept on building. Another unputdownable read from Shalini, with just the right amount of creepiness, dark characters and twists to keep you hooked and to be believable. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Zac and Nina have just moved into a shared two level house with neighbors (another married couple) directly above them and are hopeful they can all be friends. But Nina finds the husband a bit too intimidating toward his wife, who seems almost too scared to speak.

It‘s not long before it becomes clear Zac and Nina are not welcome in their new home, but why?

Kept me up late, wanting to read “one more chapter.” Definitely an easy, enjoyable read!

Nina and Zac have acquired a new home close to the sea for a fresh start. Friends and family have gathered to help celebrate. The dream quickly becomes a nightmare as the lights go out. Other things have gone wrong since Nina and Zac have met their upstairs neighbors, Chris and Vanessa. They came down with food poisoning after eating at Chris and Vanessa's upstairs.

EadieB Arguments were overheard from them and nasty reviews shaking Nina's business. Is someone trying to destroy Nina and Zac? I read this book in one sitting as I couldn't put it down. It hooked me from the very beginning. The twists at the ending were a real surprise. This is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. I'm looking forward to reading more of Shalini Boland's books. 3y

Love her books! This one has a sinister feel as Zac and his girlfriend move into their dream home. But the couple upstairs is odd and doesn‘t seem to “connect” with them. When weird things begin happening, we realize there are secrets deep beneath the surface!

Wow! What a book. This book grabs you from the very first page and has you totally hooked. You have no choice but to read on and on and on to find out what was going to happen and how the story resolves itself.

Shalini Boland has written a wonderful example of a psychological thriller in this book. At times it is like watching a train crash happening and not knowing when it is going to stop or what the end result will be.

Andrew65 Zac and Nina move into their dream house but this dream quite quickly becomes the ultimate nightmare and I think this book could single handled pop the housing market, after this who would want to move into a new house! (edited) 3y
Andrew65 In case you can‘t tell I really enjoyed their book which I virtually read in one sitting, well an afternoon and evening. This is the second of her books I have read and I have loved both of them. Now to add her to my must read list. If you love psychological thrillers or great reads you must read this book. 3y
