Pickpick

Three unmarried young women in the 60s give up their babies for adoption in this interesting look at the consequences and repercussions of adoption. Never spoken of certainly doesn‘t mean forgotten in this novel set in 3 different times, pre-pregnancy, the years following the adoptions, and the near past. Mehso-so

Read for book tour this week. I wanted to love this debut novel about 3 young women who meet at a maternity home in New Orleans in 1966, unwed & forced by family & societal pressure to give up their babies. A few things stopped me—clunky dialogue, the later part 25 years later when they try to figure out who is blackmailing them for past secrets, & too many coincidences that made the ending not as believable. The author wrote this after finding⬇️

I paired it with a couple egg-in-a-hole recipes inspired by a mention in the book. Review & recipe links here: http://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/2021/08/the-book-tour-stops-here-review-of-no... 3y

Yesterday‘s #LibraryBookHaul is small, just my hold of Deadly Little Scandals, the follow up to Little White Lies (which I really enjoyed!) & then The Burning Girls caught my eye on the new books shelf so I grabbed it.

In #bookmail yesterday I received the tagged book for an August book tour—about 3 young unwed women who meet at a maternity hospital in New Orleans in 1965 & brought back together 25-years later by blackmail of their secrets.
