Can you love someone you dont remember? After the Last War destroyed most of the world, survivors form a new society in four self-sustaining cities in the Mojave Desert. In the utopia of the Four Cities, inspired by the lyrics of Imagine and Buddhist philosophy, everything is carefully planned and controlled: the seasons, the weatherand the residents. To prevent mankind from destroying each other again, its citizens undergo a memory wipe every four years in a process called tabula rasa, a blank slate, to remove learned prejudices. With each new cycle, they begin again with new names, jobs, homes, and lives. No memories. No attachments. No wars. Aris, a scientist who shuns love, embraces tabula rasa and the excitement of unknown futures. Walling herself off from emotional attachments, she sees relationships as pointless and avoids deep connections. But she is haunted by a recurring dream that becomes more frequent and vivid as time passes. After meeting Benja, a handsome free-spirited writer who believes his dreams of a past lover are memories, her world is turned upside down. Obsessed with finding the Dreamers, a secret organization thought to have a way to recover memories, Benja draws her down a dangerous path toward the past. When Metis, the leader of the Dreamers, appears in Ariss life, everything she believes falls to pieces. With little time left before the next tabula rasa, they begin a bittersweet romance, navigating love in a world where names, lives, and moments are systematically destroyed. Thought-provoking and emotionally resonant, Reset will make you consider the haunting reality of love and loss, and the indelible marks they leave behind.

I didn‘t expect to enjoy this novel as much as I did. This was a Once Upon A Book Club selection last year and I‘m just now getting to read it and I enjoyed every minute of it. Also, I loved all the gifts that were in the box! It‘s definitely my favorite subscription!

A luscious journey into human perception in a post-apocalyptic future that invokes many questions on how we relate to the world around us. The poetic spin on world building held me captivated, as my mind pondered the journey, how we interact with others, and wondering what our future will hold on our present path collectively.

This is not a book I would have chosen for myself but being a part of a book club it was really a great choice. There's adventure and mystery and love.

So this had a really cool concept - memory wipe every 4 years to prevent prejudice/hate/war, but people who love each other want to stay together.

But it was very badly written. It‘s clunky, repetitive, characters are flat, random things happen to move the plot along.

Just, ugh, I so wanted this to be good. The idea is there, just needs better executing.

#Roaringwolf 6) teleportation (it‘s a sci-fi challenge for September!)

I really wanted to like this sci-fi novel. The premise is unique, but the writing felt stiff, repetitive. Also the author‘s romantic philosophizing just didn‘t ring true for me. I think it would‘ve worked better as a novella.

I wanted to like this sci-fi/speculative fiction book more. The writing is lovely, but it was entirely too sad for me. It is a love story, but not a romance. It is a post-apocalyptic future where everyone‘s minds are reset every four years. The world is a utopia, but not really. Many may enjoy, but not my thing. 3⭐️ This does have a “Reaching for the stars” moment for the #Roaringwolf sci-fi challenge!

Roary47 I agree the writing was really good. Thanks for playing. 😊💛 3y

4✨ This book was really amazing! I loved the writing the most. It is written like it is a work of art. A dystopian where a solution they take to forget helps create a world where our opinions do not cause us to fight and make wars. However, it also causes you to forget those you love and care about. There is some trigger warnings on not being able to find hope anymore. The ending was not what I would have expected also.

Mixed feels, deep thinking. Dystopian adult
Loved the systemic meaning behind the plot. Memories being essential to being human, how they transcend everything else. Did pick up immensely half way, end fell through for me. I expected a different ending, but they did say they‘d choose each other over the others. Anticlimactic yet surprising, end threw me for a loop. Loved talking morals; do we have the freedom of our souls?
Love final gift

Been listening to this book with him the entire way of our long drive (he bought it on audible so we could read together) We‘ve been making incredible progress. Even with the times we stop to discuss the moral issues of this “utopia”. Which is so nice to be able to do. How much are you willing to give up for the perfect utopia? He‘s having trouble with the absence of technical terms on the cities.

With the last day of camp I pushed to finish the two books I wanted to get done through the week. 1.)Warrior By: Karen Lynch and NERDs: Cheerleaders of Doom By:Michael Buckley. I‘m still pushing this last day to get more of the tagged done. 2.) I love singing Disney songs. I don‘t think other people like that singing though 😅 Thank you @ImperfectCJ for hosting a fun #LitsySummeeCamp

I‘m so excited for this book!! It‘s finally here!! I love the premise of every 4 years you are made to forget your earned love and memories - to fix learned prejudices. But this scientist finds that that is not all life is when someone who defies what she so strongly believes in finds her. And entices her to rethink the list of memories.
