14 posts | 16 read | 3 to read
For as long as we both shall live? A pulse-racing standalone thriller by the #1 bestselling author of The Secrets She Keeps, now a major TV series Philomena McCarthy has defied the odds and become a promising young officer with the Metropolitan Police despite being the daughter of a notorious London gangster. Called to the scene of a domestic assault one day, she rescues a bloodied young woman, Tempe Brown, the mistress of a decorated detective. The incident is hushed up, but Phil has unwittingly made a dangerous enemy with powerful friends. Determined to protect each other, the two women strike up a tentative friendship. Tempe is thoughtful and sweet and makes herself indispensable to Phil, but sinister things keep happening and something isn't quite right about the stories Tempe tells. When a journalist with links to Phil's father and to the detective is found floating in the Thames, Phil doesn't know where to turn, who to blame or who she can trust. This exhilarating thriller from the bestselling author - whose books have sold more than 6 million copies - is Michael Robotham's finest page-turner yet. __________ Praise for Michael Robotham: 'He writes in a voice with a haunting sense of soul' Peter James 'Robotham is the real deal' David Baldacci 'One of crime's greatest practitioners . . . a ripper, suspenseful read' The Australian 'Robotham doesn't just make me scared for his characters, he makes my heart ache for them' Linwood Barclay 'Michael Robotham has done it again - another accomplished crime novel unlike anything he has ever written before' Sydney Morning Herald 'Excellent' Literary Review

Worst in a long time… a man writing for a woman is the cringiest thing to try and read through. Some things “she” would say, I actually said out loud “what the fuck”. And then it just felt like badly written tangents. I didn‘t care what happened in the end.

Loved it! A teeny bit predictable but so well written that I didn‘t mind. There was one twist that I didn‘t see coming and that always makes me sit up and appreciate the author‘s misdirection.

London female cop tries to do what is always right. Her family has a history of being on the wrong side of the law. A toxic friendship and a domestic violence case makes this read a page turner. Just enough of todays craziness mixed with a bad cop that won‘t stop being a woman hater. I found a new author to love!

The intelligence that flies off of the pages in Robotham‘s books always amazes me. He also writes about female characters better than most.. 😏

Needed a quick read and this was it. What do you do when your husband is a highly decorated police officer and he is a abuser? You are a female PC and your father is /was a criminal? Stalkers? This is a stand alone book. Feels like a tv series. Author lives in Australia but this book set in London. I enjoy his writing when I need a quick read.

This is a great suspense thriller with lots of twists and turns, which certainly kept me reading. I thought the MC a sympathetic character, but she does make some strange decisions for a police officer. Overall I liked it & would recommend it. 4🌟

TW: domestic abuse/assault, sexual assault, child abuse (violence).

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Little, Brown Book Group/Sphere, for the opportunity to read an ARC. 🌟
