The inspiring, influential senator and bestselling author mixes vivid personal stories with a passionate plea for political transformation. Elizabeth Warren is a beacon for everyone who believes that real change can improve the lives of all Americans. Committed, fearless, and famously persistent, she brings her best game to every battle she wages. In Persist, Warren writes about six perspectives that have influenced her life and advocacy. She's a mother who learned from wrenching personal experience why child care is so essential. She's a teacher who has known since grade school the value of a good and affordable education. She's a planner who understands that every complex problem requires a comprehensive response. She's a fighter who discovered the hard way that nobody gives up power willingly. She's a learner who thinks, listens, and works to fight racism in America. And she's a woman who has proven over and over that women are just as capable as men. Candid and compelling, Persist is both a deeply personal book and a powerful call to action. Elizabeth Warren--one of our nation's most visionary leaders--will inspire everyone to believe that if we're willing to fight for it, profound change is well within our reach.

Warren is so familiar to me. SO familiar. OKC, Norman, & Wewoka are also my top three Okla towns. I‘m playing catch-up with Litsy, so I‘m not sure what I thought about this book after I read it, but I definitely now understand why Warren feels like home.

I bought this as a gift for my step-mom, and decided to first flip through and read a bit at random to make sure it was worth giving.

Before I knew it, I'd read a full chapter (30+ pages). Then another chapter.

After a couple of hours, I realized I'd read the intro and the last 1/3 of the book! How could I not just go back and read everything in between?? So that's exactly what I did!

Listen: Senator Elizabeth Warren did not come to mess around!
“For all those super-duper smart economists and fancy think-tank gurus who want to increase productivity in the economy and produce better outcomes for all America, here‘s a little advice: instead of giving companies more tax breaks to replace more workers with more machines, you could figure out how to give more women a better chance to contribute their time and talents.” 👀🔥🤷🏾‍♀️

I was devastated when Elizabeth Warren didn‘t win the Democratic nomination in the last presidential campaign. She was the first candidate ever that I believed in enough to actually make campaign contributions. This book, which is heavily focused on the last 18 months or so, but which also includes deeper background, makes me even sadder that she is not our president. Filled with her passion, plans, and persistence, this was a great listen.

Nebklvr I also contributed for the first time 3y

She has a plan for that! Warren presents her revised and updated plans based on her time campaigning, and although she never outright says it, I think it is to get her base to hold the Biden administration accountable to more progressive people in the party. She talks a bit about what he‘s done well (cabinet appointees), but she (and I) still want that wealth tax and other policies. And she hits they highlights of roasting Bloomberg, too! 💜🙌🏻

Cinfhen I try to avoid politics on Litsy ( or basically in general) but honestly the progressive left scares me. I‘m not a fan of Elizabeth Warren, although I‘m sure she has some wonderful ideas (edited) 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I don‘t usually talk politics on litsy either, but I feel it‘s fair when reviewing a book. And the books I happen to enjoy sit on the left. Some of her views are less controversial (like investing more in teachers, childcare, and pre-K) but how she plans to fund it (adding a 2% tax to people‘s net worth above 50M) is more controversial. I think I like her so much because she does plan and has concrete answers about a lot of her ideas. ⬇️ 3y
Megabooks She‘s a bit of a progressive policy wonk, and I absolutely love that in a politician. I‘m going to read Amy Klobuchar‘s book as well soon. She was the BFF‘s top choice, and I didn‘t pay much attention to her during the primaries, so there will be another review in the next month or so, but I‘m not going to turn this into a political account. 💜 3y

Cinfhen I think it‘s important to read and learn and I absolutely don‘t feel like you‘re preaching or politicizing. I think my issues with the far left are their views on BDS & Israel. For me anti Zionism equate anti semitism but I‘m obviously very sensitive on that topic. (edited) 3y
Soubhiville @Megabooks I‘d really like to see that higher tax on the megarich- they squirrel their way out of so much tax and they‘re the ones who could really afford to pay more to help the rest of the country! (I‘m with you about avoiding politics on here for the most part, but I agree reviews are fine. And I can‘t help agreeing with you, most of the time I think!) 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I get that, and it‘s perfectly understandable that your religion/beliefs would inform your vote. I appreciate it when people have an informed position even if I don‘t agree on every point. 💕 3y
Megabooks @Soubhiville yeah, I find it a bit ridiculous that those with the most pay the least in terms of percent of income. And yeah, if I want politics, I‘ll get back on Twitter. 😂 Litsy is for books! (edited) 3y
Ruthiella She had my vote. 😢 3y
Megabooks @Ruthiella Me too. She was on the ballot in my state after Biden clenched it, but I voted for her anyway. 3y
CarolynM From my far distant view, I've always thought Elizabeth Warren looked like an excellent presidential candidate. We need more leaders who are strong on policy rather than populism. 3y
Megabooks @KarenUK Somehow I missed this. Yes, she was an awesome candidate. 3y
Megabooks @CarolynM She really was. I definitely appreciated how she balanced great, thoughtful ideas and approachability. She doesn‘t do small, and I like that. I like that she‘s pushing Biden on some progressive issues. We need more of that here. 3y

@BookishMarginalia and I each had a stack of books we had left at the till so that we could continue to peruse unencumbered. When we went to pay my wife says, “I‘m Persist.”

My response, “Does that make me Malice?”

Elizabeth Warren will be having a conversation with Stacey Abrams for the launch of her new book, Persist. I am so excited! (Online event is being sponsored by Politics and Prose in DC).

vivastory Don't know if you saw but B&N online is selling signed copies of Warren's book 3y
