The next dark and sexy romantic suspense novel from the USA TODAY bestselling author of Unteachable, which was praised for its lush, haunting prose, deft storytelling, and scorching sensuality (M. Pierce, bestselling author of the Night Owl trilogy), and called one of the best forbidden romances (Lauren Blakely, New York Times bestselling author).Love is not a thing that we create. Its an undoing. It only took one moment of weakness for Laney Keatings world to fall apart. One stupid gesture for a hopeless crush. Then the rumors began. Slut, they called her. Queer. Psycho. Mentally ill, messed up, so messed up even her own mother decided she wasnt worth sticking around for. If Laney could erase that whole year, she would. College is her chance to start with a clean slate. Shes not looking for new friends, but they find her: charming, handsome Armin, the only guy patient enough to work through her thorny defensesand fiery, filterless Blythe, the bad girl and partner in crime who has thorns of her own. But Laney knows nothing good ever lasts. When a ghost from her past resurfacesthe bully who broke her down completelyshe decides its time to live up to her own legend. And Armin and Blythe are going to help. Which was the plan all along. Because the rumors are true. Every single one. And Laney is going to show them just how true. Shes going to show them all.

I did love the writing of this book and how it pulls you in. However I lost interest half way through a bit, too much back and forth had me a bit confused. I wish the ending could have been a bit darker and twisted. Decent read 3/5.

Loving this book so far!! And the mug that was given to me by my mom (not usually religious but this mug really spoke to me lately) and my usual hot cocoa before bed.
Can‘t wait to finish this book!

Whenever I think of #flawed characters that happen to be absolutely amazing, with a great writer and storyteller, Raeder (now Elliot Wake) comes to mind. Unteachable was the first book I read by this author, which was also the #debutnovel and I've been hooked ever since. Black Iris was a completely different story but so addicting. Both of the main characters are extremely flawed young women. #octophotochallenge #booktober

This book has a White Oleander kind of feel. It's dark, with characters focusing on drugs, sex, and revenge. I liked parts of it, hated some of it, and listening to the audiobook I got rather confused by the way the timeline was laid out. It is, overall, beautifully written though.

This book is a little difficult as an audiobook, because of the multiple "[month] last year" flash backs. I'd get confused during the first portion, though I'm about 70% through and now that more of the story is coming about its making more sense. I think I'd like it better had I read it.

Goodreads says there's a LGBT aspect to this story, so I'm in!

TheNextBook Yes there is! Her later book Cam Girl really explores the topic and the author has been transitioning and now goes by Elliot Wake. The newest book is called Bad Boy and is about a female transitioning to a man. Love Raeder's work. I'm sure I'll love the Wake novel. 8y

Raeder is the best at writing dark novels with flawed characters that you hate and love at the same time. This story is complicated and full of twists and so damn sexy. I love Raeder's style. She is unapolagetic when it comes to delivering dark storylines.
