Unplugged | Gordon Korman
5 posts | 7 read | 3 to read
From New York Times bestselling author Gordon Korman comes a hilarious middle grade novel about a group of kids forced to unplug at a wellness campwhere they instead find intrigue, adventure, and a whole lot of chaos. Perfect for fans of Kormans The Unteachables and Masterminds series, as well as Carl Hiaasens eco mysteries. As the son of the worlds most famous tech billionaire, spoiled Jett Baranov has always gotten what he wanted. So when his fathers private jet drops him in the middle of a place called the Oasis, Jett cant believe it. Hes forced to hand over his cell phone, eat grainy veggie patties, and participate in wholesome activities with the other kids whom he has absolutely no interest in hanging out with. As the weeks go on, Jett starts to get used to the unplugged life and even bonds with the other kids over their discovery of a baby-lizard-turned-pet, Needles. But he cant help noticing that the adults at the Oasis are acting really strange. Could it be all those suspicious meditation sessions? Jett is determined to get to the bottom of things, but can he convince the other kids that he is no longer just a spoiled brat making trouble?

I have the best group of 6th graders in my book club this year! Today we finished Unplugged by Gordan Korman and they LOVED it - his books are always a hit and for good reason. #raisingreaders #schoollibraries #librariansoflitsy #teachersoflitsy

I always screen my books before adding them to my class library. I really enjoyed this story. Great for kids, 5-7th grade. 🙂

3.5⭐
Jett is the son of the richest person in the world (think Jeff Bezos). Dad packs him and his minder off to the backwoods of Little Rock, Arkansas and the wellness retreat The Oasis. Rule number one at Oasis? Completely unplug. This book was a laugh riot with lots of heart. However, I thought the ending was way rushed. the mystery at the end seemed out of place. This book was enjoyable, and kids will love it, but Korman has done better.
