Squeeze Me: A novel | Carl Hiaasen

Hiaasen has always been the champion chronicler of Florida Man in all his incarnations; with this latest entry set in Palm Beach and the Winter White House, he takes on the Florida Man-in-Chief, a POTUS whose deranged lies turn a bizarre accident involving a Burmese python into an anti-immigrant witch hunt, until Angie Armstrong, a wildlife expert with a record, takes matters into her own hands. A hilarious, fast-paced read with satirical bite.

This was close to a pick. The MC was fantastic but the overtly political nature of the story was grating by the end. This was not the strongest Hiaasen novel I‘ve read, however, still great to have a another Skink adventure.

With his trademark dry wit oozing off each & every page, Hiaasen has written another satire with political shenanigan/abuses front & center. Throw in a dash of a cult of personality, some two bit hoodlums, some really, really big snakes (I mean really, really big 🐍), a dead octogenarian & you have a wild & entertaining story. It‘s not all fun & games—Hiaasen also has some important things to say about immigration & environmentalism. A good read.

Hooked_on_books I loved this! I‘ve enjoyed his books for years, so I just dove into this one without reading the description. I listened to the audio and actually had to pause it a couple of times while snort-laughing so I didn‘t miss anything! 😂 5y
