Pickpick

Set in 2015 just after the marriage equality ruling, this fast read (a debut) tells the story of two childhood friends who reconnect for the first time in a decade. Sebastian wants nothing more to settle down, & envies the freedom his queer students have to live openly, while Oscar deeply resents what he sees as the death of gay culture. A story of friendship, obsession, history, belonging, & knowing who you are. I enjoyed it.

Starting a recommendation from a friend who really knows books so I‘m anticipating a good read.

Reading this one this week. Not sure how I feel about it yet, but we'll see.

This week I'm reading some book mail I received from Algonquin Books, LET'S GET BACK TO THE PARTY by Zak Salih. I'll be reviewing this on my blog mid-February, but this debut novel "examines queer culture, generational envy, and the search for belonging through the lens of two childhood friends who reconnect as adults." ?️‍?

Pickpick

This book is a poignant look at a couple of very different gay men who had been childhood friends. They both move awkwardly through their lives trying to decide who they. The striking impact of the Pulse nightclub massacre impacts the end of this book, not directly but in the peripheral way that it affected everyone in the LGBTQ community at the time—highly recommend.

I rec‘d an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I‘ve actually been reading this ebook for several days and realized I forgot to add it on here. So far I‘m into it, although I feel really sorry for both POV characters.

Cathythoughts Look forward to your review 👍🏻🎄 3y
