#LeastFaveGenre would have to be sports. I looked through a list of GOAT sports books and saw this, which is about sports I‘ll actually watch… and besides the fact that the title is making me rethink if I should actually be watching these sports… I still have zero interest in reading this book. #BookBinge @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I love to watch some sports, but don‘t care for the books either! 9mo
KathyWheeler I read this years ago and it‘s quite good. 9mo
Eggs I love to watch tennis 🎾 but the only sports books I read are baseball ⚾️ F or HF. Well done! 9mo

A stellar book.
Here's a story...
When I was little, these steel-gazed ladies would visit preschools, hunting for tht perfect girls: 3 to 5 years old, tiny, strong, quick. Hunting for champion material. The cjosen ones would get slips of paper with their gym's address. I wasn't good enoufh, due to mh health issues, but soon, I had a classmate - we shared the same name, we both were lefthandsd, she was my secret schoolgirl crush. (cont. below) 👇

thebackyardgnome The perfect sportsgirl, the little gymnast, showing off medals after meets. Everyone cheered her on.q Halfway through the first gradr, parents of our classmates had to stage an intervention for her parents, to save their daughtdr from themselves, and the elite sport lifestyle. Not all girls were as lhcky. This book is a perfect window inth thst insular, odd world tjst almost swallowrd my friend whole. A great, engrossing read. 1y
thebackyardgnome PS Thr lady in the picture is Elena Mukhina. Her storg haunts me ever sincr I was a littlr girl. May shr rest in peace. 1y

This book is a fascinating look at the change in (primarily) gymnastics toward a girl‘s sport rather than women‘s in the 70s and 80s as well as the extensive abuse wrought upon the athletes. This was written in 1995 and has an updated introduction, but I‘d love to see a whole book update. But I was riveted nevertheless. Shame on Bela Karolyi! 😡

GingerAntics The Karoliy‘s were/are horrible. I‘m so glad they‘ve FINALLY been ousted. 3y

Oops, I bought books! My bookoutlet order finally arrived today. I found myself paging through the tagged book, so that may end up being the first of these I tackle. And I‘ll definitely be reading The Night Olivia Fell in October for my buddy read.
