I‘m only 20% in and contemplating DNFing (which I never do). Character behavior goes beyond senseless and into idiocy. She‘s a 17-year-old girl traveling alone; she gets off the train at a random stop and starts knocking on doors at strange houses to ask for a job?!? Are you kidding me? What if a guy answers and says, “sure, I‘ve got a job for you!”? Then the college professor who hires her leaves her—17!!!—in charge of home renovations?!? 🤦‍♀️

Book 116🎧 2.5⭐️

A different take on a ghost story, a love story… of sorts😬 a tad “problematic”…

You can hear the change in the narrator tone as the book progresses, more and more frantic.

Narration gave a good voice to the character.

You ever read a book then put it down and say what the hell did I just read? This was that book. None of the book made sense, and the reveal at the end was suppose to make up for the fact that none of it made sense? What?? I'm sorry but no. You can't write just say a bunch of things that make absolute no sense, then say oh it's because of this, which okay, but what about everything that just made no sense!? 2/5 stars

It's not often I rate something under 2 stars but I'm afraid this was a disappointing read. I thought the synopsis to this sounded good, but I didn't like the rambling style of the main character and she was just so passive. The ending explained certain things but for me there were plot points left unexplained. It just didn't work for me. 1⭐

This was such a well written, hauntingly yet eerie book. I really liked the story and how everything was a mystery until the very end. Each chapter something was happening, I liked the mix of paranormal, a small bit of romance and the suspense. The ending was so unexpected and I had no idea what was going to happen or any theories. I loved that the ending wrapped everything up nicely, and the title really is true, it isn't a ghost story.

"And suddenly I am aware of being watched. And I know exactly where I am being watched from.
I am being watched from inside the house.
The completely empty house."

I got the most amazing proof and tote bag from HarperTeen! This book was so, so good, wonderfully creepy and kept me guessing all the way through. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
