The Longings of Wayward Girls
The Longings of Wayward Girls: A Novel | Karen Brown
The dark side of a seemingly perfect Connecticut suburb comes to light when one womans long-buried secrets refuse to stay in the past, in this engrossing debut novel of psychological suspense. Its an idyllic New England summer, and Sadie is a precocious only child on the edge of adolescence. It seems like July and August will pass lazily by, just as they have every year before. But one day, Sadie and her best friend play a seemingly harmless prank on a neighborhood girl. Soon after, that same little girl disappears from a backyard barbecueand she is never seen again. Twenty years pass, and Sadie is still living in the same quiet suburb. Shes married to a good man, has two beautiful children, and seems to have put her past behind her. But when a boy from her old neighborhood returns to town, the nightmares of that summer will begin to resurface, and its unsolved mysteries will finally become clear.

Bailedbailed

An occasional touch of the whimsical would temporarily pull me back in, but this book didn‘t hold my interest. As a reading addict, I would instead find myself making excuses not to read. I bailed 1/4 of the way through the book.

#41 and here are my book picks for April/May I just ordered Little Fires Everywhere so technically my next 5 reads. I‘ve gotta pick up the pace. It‘s been hard to focus on reading while also homeschooling my 3 teenaged boys, 2 of which are autistic 😅 never a dull moment here! Quarantine life is bad for my TBR shelves lol

michellelav Wow, what a beautiful room! 😍 4y
michellelav And if I was in your shoes I'd be proud to be reading at all! You're doing great ❤ 4y
Caffeinated_Reader @michellelav thank you so much 😊💜💜And true, I am grateful to sneak in the reading time I do. Little victories are better than none! 4y
Caffeinated_Reader That was a pretty good story. I liked the slow build mystery and although the timelines were hard to follow it was told perfectly. I‘m only giving 4 stars because the ending was not that great. All that slow build and all for that? Meh. I do still want to check out other writings by this author though lol 4y

The sky! The sky is blue! Just starting this one from my tbr over lunch. My husband (rudely) pointed out that one of the shelves on my tbr shelf might be sagging, so rude, so I guess I should read some of those. And not buy any more 😂

Pickpick

So, for awhile I was not so sure about this book, but in the end it was pretty decent.
