The Grace Kelly Dress
The Grace Kelly Dress: A Novel | Brenda Janowitz
12 posts | 12 read | 16 to read
Exactly the type of book I love: charming, smart, and brimming with heart. EMILY GIFFIN, #1 New York Times bestselling author of All We Ever Wanted Fast paced and entertaining from beginning to end. KRISTIN HANNAH, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Nightingale Two years after Grace Kellys royal wedding, her iconic dress is still all the rage in Parisand one replica, and the secrets it carries, will inspire three generations of women to forge their own paths in life and in love. Paris, 1958: Rose, a seamstress at a fashionable atelier, has been entrusted with sewing a Grace Kellylook-alike gown for a wealthy bride-to-be. But when, against better judgment, she finds herself falling in love with the brides handsome brother, Rose must make an impossible choice, one that could put all shes worked for at risk: love, security and of course, the dress. Sixty years later, tech CEO Rachel, who goes by the childhood nickname Rocky, has inherited the dress for her upcoming wedding in New York City. But theres just one problem: Rocky doesnt want to wear it. A family heirloom dating back to the 1950s, the dress just isnt her. Rocky knows this admission will break her mother Joans heart. But what she doesnt know is why Joan insists on the dressor the heartbreaking secret that changed her mothers life decades before, as she herself prepared to wear it. As the lives of these three women come together in surprising ways, the revelation of the dresss history collides with long-buried family heartaches. And in the lead-up to Rockys wedding, theyll have to confront the past before they can embrace the beautiful possibilities of the future.

Three timelines and one dress reimagined for the life the brides who wore it. This switched quickly between timelines but I liked the stories in all three - 1958, 1982, 2020 and had fun reading it. ↓

marleed On a side-note: The lace in my pic has experienced 3 generations. My father purchased this chapel veil for my mother in 1940‘s Philippines, and their daughters wore the veil for their first communions. I was the 4th daughter to wear it. ↓ 2y
marleed My father gifted me the veil for my daughter to wear for her first communion. To my surprise my she chose a wedding dress so this veil could be oh so delicately fashioned as her wedding veil. How cool is that!? My daughter now has a daughter, and this veil awaits 4th generation use! 2y

marleed @eeclayton @MaureenMc Thank you! I‘m honored to be the steward of this family treasure. I‘ve been fortunate to be the keeper of several family treasures but as nieces or nephews grew to adulthood, I knew they were the most appropriate steward of the treasure. But this veil is the item my grands will carry through the generations. 2y

I really wish Goodreads had half stars. This gets a low pick for me. It tells a multi-generational story about 3 women in 1958, 1982 & 2020 respectively. The alternating chapters are fairly short so the book goes by quickly. I enjoyed the story, but do feel it was pretty predictable and could have been a little bit better. But if you like a nice feel-good story sprinkled with historical fiction, then you will probably enjoy this. 3.5⭐️

I love the idea of an heirloom that is passed down 3 generations of women, each having their own meaningful experience with the dress inspired by the iconic Princess Grace Kelly‘s wedding dress. I really liked the three separate stories and how it all tied together in the end 💕

This is a “feel good” story of family, love, and tradition. Three generations of women…one remarkable wedding dress.

My friend, Brenda Janowitz, has a new book coming out THIS TUESDAY! @MrBook I‘m sure you can‘t come into the city on a weekday, but I‘d love to see you at this event. If not, maybe she could be a book club guest?

If you were a fan of last year‘s The Gown by Jennifer Robson, then I 100% think this book will be for you. Like that story, this centers the making of a wedding gown and is a multi-generational family story. And like that story, I absolutely could not put it down.
