The Christmas Party is a delicious, page-turning story full of twists and turns. At an elegant country house party, shocking secrets and unexpected romances hide just beneath the surface . . . A must-read for the festive season by Karen Swan, the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Christmas Secret and Christmas at Tiffany's. When Declan Lorne, the last remaining knight in Ireland, dies suddenly, an ancient title passes with him. But his estate on Irelands rugged south-west coast is left to his three daughters. The two eldest, Ottie and Pip, inherit in line with expectations, but to everyones surprise and dismay it is the errant baby of the family, Willow, who gets the castle. Why her? Something unknown something terrible - made her turn her back on her family three years earlier, escaping to Dublin and vowing never to return. So when Willow quickly announces she is selling up, her revenge seems sweet and the once-close sisters are pushed to breaking point: in desperation, Pip risks everything to secure her own future, and Ottie makes a decision that will ruin lives. Its each woman for herself. Before moving in, Connor Shaye, the prospective new owner, negotiates throwing a lavish party at the castle just days before Christmas his hello, their goodbye. But as their secrets begin to catch up with them, Ottie, Willow and Pip are forced to ask themselves which is harder: stepping into the future, or letting go of the past? What Karen's readers say . . . 'This is a perfect winter's day read, that will have you utterly absorbed...' 'Full of intrigue, secrets, heartbreak, love' 'If you're after a book with a truly Christmas feel, full of drama, mystery, heart and hope then The Christmas Lights is a book for you' 'Crammed with love, heartbreak and powerful secrets this Christmas story with substance is not to be missed!' 'The Christmas Lights is the perfect Christmas read . . . The festive season can now commence!'

This book started off kind of lame, if it hadn‘t been an impulse buy when I was doing Christmas shopping I probably would have bailed. It was predictable but it was enjoyable. I‘d like a castle in Ireland

An opossum took stroll through my back yard 😱🤷🏻‍♀️and I am shook. I live in the city, in southern Ontario. WILD times are happening

Tamra Awesome - lucky sighting! We are not urban and I have never seen one rambling around. 4y
mcctrish @Tamra I have to wonder if it‘s sick 4y
marleed My adult life can‘t escape those critters except for my five years in the downtown of a big city. 4y

Tamra @mcctrish yes, that‘s a good question because aren‘t they nocturnal? 4y
mcctrish @Tamra I‘m going to need to look that up but I think you may be right 4y
ljuliel We have them here on occasion. If they‘re out in the daytime, the police shoot them, as they‘re supposedly rabid, or a danger to family pets . They‘re yukky looking things. 😱 (edited) 4y
mcctrish @ljuliel I was wondering if I should call animal control ( our police aren‘t first responders for animals 😆) they aren‘t nocturnal though, just prefer the quieter times. And cats apparently get more opossums then opossums get cats 🤷🏻‍♀️I‘ve been looking them up because I‘m just so surprised 4y
ljuliel Wow, I never knew a cat could beat one in a fight ! I don‘t know, other than what they do here. I‘m not much of an animal expert. Hopefully it was just out for a stroll. 4y
marleed I used to own a large house with a massive wood deck that was 12-15 inches above ground. Perfect it seems for possums and raccoons to live together. Both invited families for holidays and unfortunately all the cousins would then stay. It drove me crazy. I had two cats who ignored both clans. When food was an option the raccoons trumped the possums. One time to my horror a skunk came and trumped them all. Wild Kingdom in my backyard! 4y
marleed Btw, you can catch a possum in a live trap very easy. Just put some cat food in the back. And lay newspaper under the trap - because, uh, they leave evidence. They won‘t try to escape the cage where the raccoons will bend the thing all up. If worried you can place a heavy rock on top the cage. 4y
ReadingRachael Hmmmm.....I too live in urban Southern Ontario and saw a possum in my back yard this week.....we too have been a little worried as we saw it in broad daylight (especially because we have a dog.) I‘ve never seen one in this area before. Kind of weird (edited) 4y
mcctrish @ReadingRachael the mild weather probably has them out and about in the daylight because the night would be chillier for them. This guy was pretty big 4y

Although this book is titled The Christmas Party, I found that it had very little to do with Christmas. I did enjoy the 3 characters and their romance. If you are in the mood for a light (predictable) read - I would recommend. If you are looking for a Christmas theme - I would check elsewhere.

A ‘feel good‘ and, at times, emotional journey through the ups and downs and twists and turns of family life. It fair warms the cockles of your heart. It deals with the more serious threads of the tale very well, whilst at the same time retaining its humour and lightheartedness. Well written with a fantastic cast of engaging characters, it can tug at the heartstrings, so keep a tissue ready. Just right for the festive season! 🎄Perfect fairytale.
