When your fairy godmother threatens to enslave you with a curse - when a malevolent piper solves your rat problem but steals your children - when you seek revenge on the prince who turned you into a frog - who can you turn to in your hour of need? The band of scoundrels known far and wide as the Bastard Champions - the swashbuckling trio who travel a world of legend, seeking adventure and righting wrongs - as long as there's enough gold to be earned. They are Jack, the seemingly unkillable leader whose ever-present grin belies a dark past; Marie, who fights with fury but battles more fiercely to control the beast within; and Frank, the master of logistics, whose cloak hides horrific scars that are far more than skin-deep. As they slash and scheme through kingdom and village alike, the Bastard Champions uncover tantalizing clues to their ultimate quarry: the powerful Blue Fairy, who has made each of their lives a living hell.Second Hand Curses adds a dash of sly wit and a heaping portion of action to the fairy tales you thought you knew.

What to do when your fairy tale isn‘t going the way you want? Hire the Bastard Champions. For the right price, Jack, and his companions Frank and Marie, are just the scoundrels to get you out of trouble.

This is a romp where scoundrels dip into other fairy tales, while also pursuing their own goals. Fun characters, although Frank and Marie are my faves. I want to know more about the Narrative, so I hope there‘s going to be a sequel. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

I finally caught up on the Of Slippers and Spindles podcast, which discusses fairy tale retellings. And they‘re doing Jack and the Beanstalk this month. The discussions of different adaptations reminded me of how much I liked the tagged book.

So #LMPBC #GroupQ we‘re doing Second Hand Curses by Drew Hayes for my quirky fantasy pick. I listened to it as an audiobook when it came out four years ago, and I loved it. I hope you all enjoy it too! 💚

Chrissyreadit I had no idea this podcast existed!!! I‘m so excited- retellings are one of my favorite (sub) genres. 2y

Time for some fairy tales! 💫

1. I love retellings so much! Modernized, twisted, combined. I adore them all. Retellings may be my favorite sub genre of stories!
2. The Fitcher‘s Bird or The Twa Sisters
3. Tagged! This book was so much fun, and every time I predicted something, I was wrong.

#sundayfunday Don‘t forget to tag me!

JaclynW I've never read The Fitcher's Bird. 4y
BookmarkTavern @JaclynW It‘s definitely one of the darker ones. I‘ve noticed it doesn‘t appear in every collection. http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/bluebeard/stories/fitchersbird.html 4y

This was an audible book for me and it was much more fun than I thought it would be. The main character is full of himself but the author does a good job of balancing his past and his personality to make him interesting. The use of fairy tales and a sort of bad good guys is fun and not too predictable. I enjoyed the voice acting and look forward to a sequel. 4/5 stars, read if you would want a darker version of Flynn from Tangled (the movie)
