The worst of times calls for the best of friends in this sassy novel about starting over, from New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown. Dear friends and army wives Diana, Carmen, and Joanie have been through war, rumors of war, marital problems, motherhood, fears, joy, and heartache. But none of the women are prepared when their daughters decide to enlist in the army together. Facing an empty nest won't be easy. Especially for Carmen. With emotions already high, she suffers an even greater blow: divorce papers. Diana understands the fury and tears. She's been there. With nothing to lose and no one at home, the girlfriends impulsively accept an unexpected offer from their elderly neighbor. The recently widowed Tootsie has an RV, a handsome nephew at the wheel, and an aim for tiny Scrap, Texas, to embrace memories of her late husband. Still grieving, she can use the company as a balm for her broken heart. So can the empty nesters. Embarking on a journey of hope, romance, and healing, Diana, Carmen, and Joanie are at a turning point in their lives. And with the open road ahead of them, it's just the beginning.

Not reading much these days because:

1)watched the roller coaster to the Biden presidency non-stop 👀
and
2) all consuming time suck of coaching (nagging) my daughter through college apps!

But good news: she got her first offer today! Still 2 more apps and interviews to go, but this mom is doing a happy dance that she‘s got in somewhere!
💃 I‘ll feel differently when the time comes but after months of pandemic life I‘m ready for an empty nest!

MsMelissa Congrats to your daughter! Did she get in to Ryerson? Where else is she applying? My daughter is only in grade 9 nine but she‘s already thinking hard about where she wants to go to university. As of right now she wants to stay close-ish to home, and so Queen‘s is her current choice. 3y
KVanRead @Book_Fiend_Melissa Queens is a great school! Yes, my daughter got into Ryerson. She is really sold on Toronto and is also interested in a BFA so she‘s applied to U of T, York, and OCADU as well. Next up is getting her portfolio completed, so not done yet, ugh, but nice to know she‘s got into one place that she‘d like to be at. 3y
BiblioLitten Congratulations to your daughter!! 🎊 3y

I really enjoyed this book. I especially liked the characters Tootsie, Luke, and Diana. Life sure changes when the nest is empty.

Enjoyable but predictable light read. Good for when you want to read for entertainment but not have to think.

I‘m dropping my youngest off for his first year of college. I have a few minutes before the next event starts, so I pulled out my kindle and this is the ad that popped up when I opened it. Targeted advertising or coincidence?

LibrarianRyan I'd say targeted advertising. I put nothing past Amazon. 5y
