The Last Confession of Thomas Hawkins
The Last Confession of Thomas Hawkins | Antonia Hodgson
8 posts | 50 read | 14 to read
In this spirited new adventure with the affable rogue and fallen gentleman Thomas Hawkins, our hero prays for a royal parson as he relives the espionage, underground dealings, and murder accusations that sent him to the gallows. London, 1728. Tom Hawkins is headed to the gallows, accused of murder. Gentlemen dont hang and Toms damned if hell be the first. He may not be much of a gentleman, but he is innocent. He just always finds his way into a spot of bad luck. Its hard to say when Toms troubles began. He was happily living in sin with his beloved, Kitty Sparks though their neighbors were certainly less pleased about that. He probably shouldn't have told Londons most cunning criminal mastermind that he was "bored and looking for adventure." Nor should he have offered to help the king's mistress in her desperate struggles with a brutal and vindictive husband. And he definitely shouldn't have trusted the calculating Queen Caroline. Shes promised him a royal pardon if he holds his tongue, but then again, there is nothing more silent than a hanged man. Now Tom must scramble to save his life and protect those he loves. But as the noose tightens, his time is running out.

Look what arrived this morning! I really enjoyed the first book (curtesy of the lovely @jenniferw88 I believe!) so I can‘t wait to read the second book! What better way to start your day than with the arrival of book mail. 😊

squirrelbrain I have book 3 in the series (which I read without realising it was a series - doh!) so I can send it to you when you‘re ready for it.... It‘s set only a few miles from where I live.... 4y

Very good historical fiction! Enjoyed this one! We meet Thomas Hawkins as he‘s on his way to the gallows at Tyburn. He‘s still convinced a pardon is coming when the noose is put around his neck . . .

Cathythoughts Sounds good 👍🏻❤️ 6y

After attending Antonia's talk earlier, I had to finish her book as she was mentioning some of the characters! Another 5 ⭐ read and I can't wait for the next one in the series (August 2017)

I don't think I've ever actually used the word romp when describing a book...until now. This was so fun that I had to go back and read the first one, which was also entertaining. A charming rake, a badass girlfriend, lots of historical detail. A great summer read.
