The Cresswell Plot
The Cresswell Plot | Eliza Wass

The woods were insane in the dark, terrifying and magical at the same time. But best of all were the stars, which trumpeted their light into the misty dark. Castella Cresswell and her five siblings-Hannan, Casper, Mortimer, Delvive, and Jerusalem- know what it's like to be different. For years, their world has been confined to their ramshackle family home deep in the woods of upstate New York. They abide by the strict rule of God, whose messages come directly from their father.Slowly, Castley and her siblings start to test the boundaries of the laws that bind them. But, at school, they're still the freaks they've always been to the outside world. Marked by their plain clothing. Unexplained bruising. Utter isolation from their classmates. That is, until Castley is forced to partner with the totally irritating, totally normal George Gray, who offers her a glimpse of a life filled with freedom and choice. Castley's world rapidly expands beyond the woods she knows so well and the beliefs she once thought were the only truths. There is a future waiting for her if she can escape her father's grasp, but Castley refuses to leave her siblings behind. Just as she begins to form a plan, her father makes a chilling announcement: the Cresswells will soon return to their home in heaven. With time running out on all of their lives, Castley must expose the depth of her father's lies. The forest has buried the truth in darkness for far too long. Castley might be their last hope for salvation.

Castley Cresswell lives with her 5 siblings, docile mother, and abusive father. She is taught to believe that her father is a prophet of God. She begins to question this life view when she meets a boy who treats her like a normal person. I was surprised to rather like this book given the mediocre reviews I've seen on it. Pretty sure I said earlier that this book was taking a dark twist but I'm pretty sure it's about to be even darker than I thought...without giving spoilers I'm just gonna say that the main character just found something very suspicious... #yabooks #halloween #darker #booktober

4/5 stars this was gripping and totally MESSED UP. a quick read and a serious page turner. I think Wass‘ ability to capture the realistic feelings show true talent. If you‘re looking for something different, horrifying/unsettling/creepy, thought provoking, or just a good quick read, try this

This was super dark, and I wasn't quite expecting that. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it. The religious overtones, family secrets, and a few good plot twists made this a book you could easily conquer in one sitting.

Full review at amongtheauthors.com The story is captivating, and the writing shows promise, but ultimately the story could have benefited from more fleshing out of fine details about the characters and their background stories. I was really left wanting more.

Received an ARC so I'm trying to get it finished before the June 7th release date. So far, so good! Today is #Readathon2016 and I'm hoping to make it a good way through this book today!

This was a bit different than I expected (not as much "thriller") but I also couldn't look away! It was definitely a fast read but also hard to read at times because of their father. It was horrifying but interesting. 3.5⭐️
