Not my favorite installment because it seemed to lack focus and felt rushed at the end, but I like that Smith is developing the ancillary characters.
The new short story collection I‘m reading is heavy, so I‘m lightening it up with a sure favorite. 💙 The first chapter asks the question, “Does your life have a point?” Perfect frame for McCall to explore the lives of his regular cast of beloved characters.
4⭐️ || This is #19 of the No. 1 Ladies‘ Detective Agency series. Set in Botswana, it‘s a charming comfort read. It‘s also my #DoubleSpin pick for April!
It‘s only been a minute since I mentioned how much I 💜 this series. Total comfort reads that are intelligent, humor filled, quirky, and life affirming.
This was a $6 score at a big box store that I do not like to visit.
Have pneumonia and am on steroids, which make me twitchy and unable to read, among other things. So I've gone back to reading along with audiobooks with not-terribly- complicated plots so I can follow along. Lisette Lecat is a terrific narrator, but I kinda wish I could listen to the British versions done by Adjoa Andoh too.
The cover and end pages of this book are what I imagine to be the colours of Botswana: vibrant blue of sky and dusty sand of land.
This book is a worthy instalment of a much loved series.
Good morning, @howjessreads !
1. I was awake at 4:00 this morning, but just had some porridge with chopped dates while reading the tagged book. I still love this series 19 books in. It brings such joy. No other author has brought me such joy!
2. I have a BBQ tomorrow night with the animal shelter where I do volunteer work with cats, rabbits, hens, and ferrets. ( @Butterflyamore !) . This also makes me happy!

Mma Ramotswe put an arm around the boy‘s shoulder. ‘We don‘t hate people, Puso. We don‘t hate anybody.‘
He looked at her sullenly. ‘Why?‘ he asked.
‘Because hate makes you very tired,‘ said Mma Ramotswe. She wondered whether there was more to say, but suddenly she felt tired herself.
‘England is far away,‘ her aunt had said. ‘They used to be here, you know, but now they have gone back to their own place. There was the Queen, and then there was Seretse Khama and our own people. That is called history, you see.‘
‘But who asked them here?‘
The aunt shook her head. ‘There are some guests who do not knock.‘
‘That is very rude.‘
‘Yes,‘ said the aunt.
What a description of colonialism!
Although there is a small mystery involved, this gentle series is more about the relaxed culture of Botswana than any actual detection. Mma Ramotswe, a wise and practical woman who runs Botswana‘s only detective agency, is convinced by her friends to run for city council against her better judgement. As always, things get complicated, but work out for the best. Great series, but best to start at the beginning. 4.0/5.0 ⭐️ #2019
I've purchased so many books recently, but I'm reading the latest installment of No 1 Ladies Detective, borrowed from my wonderful mother-in-law. I love this series. Every one of them is like drinking a hot cup of tea under a cozy blanket. It's the reading equivalent of a hug.
Every single story makes me weep. C‘est tres jolie, Afrique.
I have loved this series for a long time, and this book was no exception. Precious Ramotswe is guilt-tripped into running for a seat on the city council, while trying to find out who hit a well-known doctor with their car and left him hurt. The descriptions of the different areas within the continent always fascinate me, and I love the simplicity in which Precious, her family, and her friends live their lives. #No1LadiesDetectiveAgency
Mma Romatswe is back in a new No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I have read all of these books and am so happy to be back In Botswana again. We are once again in the lives of Precious Romatswe, her husband and their friends and colleagues. These books lower my blood pressure. They also celebrate what's good and inspiring in humanity along with solving a case or two.
Mma Makutsi: Ninety Seven Per Cent piece of work. In the 19th book in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, our erstwhile co-detective-in-chief or joint CEO or whatever her latest demanded job title is, decides that she is a DOER, MOVER, and SHAKER.
“But here was Mma Makutsi, an identified and admitted doer, lying in bed, thinking about these matters, and not actually doing anything.”
I seriously love this series and all of the characters. I always feel so better after reading one of these novels even if tears are making their paths down my face. Kindness.
He was so lovely!!!
