All Aubrey Ellis wants is a normal life, one that doesn't include desperate pleas from the dead. Her remarkable gift may help others rest in peace, but it also made for an unsettling childhood and destroyed her marriage. Finally content as the real estate writer for a local newspaper, Aubrey keeps her extraordinary ability hidden--until she is unexpectedly assigned the story of a decades-old murder. Rocked by the discovery of a young woman's skeletal remains, the New England town of Surrey wants answers. Hard-nosed investigative reporter Levi St John is determined to get them. Aubrey has no choice but to get involved, even at the terrifying risk of stirring spirits connected to a dead woman's demise and piquing her new reporting partner's suspicions. As Aubrey and Levi delve further into the mystery, secrets are revealed and passion ignites. It seems that Aubrey's ghost gifts are poised to deliver everything but a normal life.

Mehso-so

This wasn‘t much more than a fluff piece. Aubrey Ellis is a journalist, working on real estate features at a small town paper. She‘s also a medium, channeling messages from ghosts. The story meanders around, switching from paranormal to murder investigations. And without too many spoilers, you should expect some romance as well. But the pace moves slowly and the suspense is just so-so.

New audiobook listen. Still trying to get into the “backest” of the back list, and didn‘t realize how many aspects this has in common with The Firebird. Psychics ‘R‘ Us week for me!

Pickpick

I just discovered Laura Spinella and it‘s made this a happy weekend (I have a book out tomorrow, which is very nervous-making). The heroine can talk to dead people—always interesting—but with creative twists. She can be astonishingly unintuitive and there‘s one dark basement/murderer scene that will infuriate you due to pure foolishness, but I really did enjoy Ghost Gifts and I‘m on to the sequel! #ghoststory #paranormalromance #ghosts #mystery

Very slow. Story is told now and 20 years ago. Some topic in the book is kind of very sensitive. #paranormal #paranormalromance #paranormalsuspense #romanticsuspense Romance between the characters is very limited.

The mystery was predictable, but interesting. The paranormal stuff was intriguing. But none of this makes up for the cheap fake out at the very end. 😑

Pickpick

This turned out to be much better than I was expecting! Part cold case murder mystery, part romance, & part paranormal. Some of the romance stuff felt a bit much to me, and a bit predictable, but overall I enjoyed it.

The fiction on my TBR is soooo long. This is kind of a random pick for my next book, & to be honest I don't necessarily have high hopes for it. Somehow the kindle first books aren't always good quality, IMO. But, how can I turn down a ghostly mystery? Going to give it a shot at least.
