My Uncle Walt gave me a copy of Shelby Foote's Civil War and told me to read a bit every night. I'm still a ways from completing it but my goal is to finish it this summer.

Book haul from yesterday. The Shelby Foote edition.

Liberty I have all these, but have not attempted them yet. My friend is currently listening to the trilogy on audio - it's 144 hours long. 😂 8y
djm001 @Liberty I'm imagining an audiobook where all of the different people in the books are read by voice actors/actresses from matching states. 8y
LeahBergen I loved Shiloh. I read it after touring the battlefield and I could completely visualize every scene. 8y
djm001 @LeahBergen I live decently close to Shiloh, so I'm eventually planning on making my way out there to tour the battlefield, too. 8y

Last year's big reading project was the Sherlock Holmes canon. This year's is "The Civil War" series by Shelby Foote. They're amazing, just as wonderful as advertised!

BookwormHistory @CherylRussell I had been meaning to pick these up for a while. So glad I finally did, I'm about halfway through the first one and it's wonderful. Foote's style is conversational with sacrificing facts or sounding like he's talking down to the reader 8y
BookwormHistory @Ruso He really is! I first heard of him (like many, I suspect) from his work in Ken Burns' "The Civil War". His voice and manner comes across in his writing the same way it did on film in the documentary. 8y
