This might be my ideal travel book. Hely is a comedy writer, but this is less evident in the book being funny (although it is) than in its blend of mundane and transcendent observations. Human and relatable and wonderful. I read a friend's but liked it enough to buy my own copy (pictured).
The more you read about the founders of other nations, the more you realize why early Americans revered George Washington so much.
I sat, looked back across the lake. As otherworldly a place as I'd ever seen, but the beauty of it was a bit harsh, the landscape on the far mountains semi-bare, the few boats on the lake almost disappearing on the vastness of the surface.
Welp, I guess that's Lake Titicaca, I thought.
