Spent a lovely morning in Petoskey, Michigan yesterday by the Ernest Hemingway statue in the park. Really need to read his Nick Adams stories set in the area. #MittenLitten

Horton Bay - "He took a deep breath, took hold of his ankles with his hands, his knees under his chin, and sank slowly down into the water. It was warm at the top but he dropped quickly into cool, then cold. As he neared the bottom it was quite cold. Nick floated down gently against the bottom. It was marly and his toes hated it as he uncurled and shoved hard against it to come up to the air..." - from *Summer People* (by Hemingway) 2/2 #getindie

GuiltyFeat I loved this collection. It's the first time I was able to connect with Hemingway and understand what all the fuss was about. 5y

When in Horton Bay... Head to the Red Fox Inn Bookstore! Run by Hemingway experts and enthusiasts, you can find annotated & collector's editions of EH's works, as well as stamped and/or embossed reader copies in what was once a farmhouse venue for serving community chicken dinners. One of the shorts in 'The Nick Adams Stories' is set in Horton Bay ("Summer People")... 1/2 #getindie

After I read a book of short stories by Hemingway a couple of listy friends recommended this book. I am so happy I did. This book puts his short stories about Nick in order starting as a boy to adulthood. I absolutely loved it, I fell in love with Hemingway all over again.

Imagineannie @Jamesmelvinmitchell I'm so glad you enjoyed them! I was originally given them to read while visiting the part of Michigan he's in for some of the stories, and that was pretty great. 6y
GuiltyFeat @Jamesmelvinmitchell Thanks for letting us know. These are the stories that really opened Hemingway up for me both stylistically and philosophically. Cheers. 6y

The Nick Adams Stories may be my favorite Hemingway; at the very least, I revisit these stories more often than his novels and other work. These stories exude a form of tenderness that distinguishes them from his other writing, and the beautiful sparsity of his language goes without saying. 🤘
