P.S. Your Cat Is Dead
P.S. Your Cat Is Dead | James Kirkwood
5 posts | 10 read | 2 to read
It's New Year's Eve in New York City. Your best friend died in September, you've been robbed twice, your girlfriend is leaving you, you've lost your job...and the only one left to talk to is the gay burglar you've got tied up in the kitchen... P.S. your cat is dead. An instant classic upon its initial publication, P.S. Your Cat is Dead received widespread critical acclaim and near fanatical reader devotion. The stage version of the novel was equally successful and there are still over 200 new productions of it staged every year. Now, for the first time in a decade, James Kirkwood's much-loved black humor comic novel of manners and escalating disaster returns to bewitch and beguile a new generation.

What a ride. This was a December book club choice, genre holiday. While it‘s definitely not a normal choice for holiday, it falls on NYE so it counts. I finished it in one sitting, not because of its brilliance (I mean it‘s okay but not genius) but because I just needed to know what happened. Spoiler alert: I‘m NOT a fan of Stockholm syndrome, but I‘ll enjoy talking about this one at our next book club meetup. Book 20 of 2020

This is an oddly fascinating book that I couldn‘t decide if I loved or hated. The protagonist was a bit on the repulsive side, but I still found myself rooting for him. I felt the same way about the antagonist. It was kind of an interesting way to bring this year to an end!

Allthebookclubs I‘m not a fan of Stockholm syndrome books and I didn‘t find this one to be fantastic, but it kept me pulled in and I had to know what happened. I read it in one evening. 3y
Come-read-with-me @Allthebookclubs I had the same reaction. Part of me just wanted to stop and part of me had to keeps reading. How odd is that? 3y

Anyone else been nice to a stranger and had it thrown back at them for no reason? I understand in this case the use of a diety could cause anger, but does a kind or polite act really need to create such an unprovoked reaction!? 🤔 #bekind

This novelization of a play is dated, absurd, and definitely better suited to he stage than on the page. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2020/04/review-ps-your-cat-is-dead-by-james.htm...
