Anybody seen the excellent LARPing documentary Darkon? I reckon I‘ll rewatch it since I dug it out of the closet for this picture.

It pairs well with The Folk of the Air which was kind of a fantasy about proto-LARPers in the 1970s.

Come to think of it, it would also go well with George “Night of the Living Dead” Romero‘s Motorcycle Renaissance Fair movie, Knight Riders.

Pickpick

Wandering lute player Joe Farrell winds up in Avicenna, California, where he falls in with an old friend, an old love, and a medieval re-enactment society toying with very real ancient magics.

This is widely considered to be Beagle‘s weakest book, even by Beagle himself. He‘s even toyed with the idea of a complete rewrite in recent years. It‘s a beautifully written shaggy mess of a book, but Beagle on a bad day is still worth 10 mediocre writers.

saresmoore “Urgently contorted”—such an apt description! 5y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @saresmoore I‘ve heard this is his weakest book plot-wise, but he still knows how to craft a sentence. 5y

A great #dedication. One expects nothing less from Beagle.
