Door into the Dark
Door into the Dark | Seamus Heaney
2 posts | 1 to read
Originally published in 1969, Seamus Heaney's Door into the Dark continues a furrow so startlingly opened in his first collection, Death of a Naturalist (1966). With the sensuosness and physicality of language that would become the hallmark of his early writing, these poems graphically depict the author's rural upbringing, from the local forge to the banks of Lough Neagh, concluding in the preserving waters of the bogland and a look ahead to his next book, Wintering Out (1972).

Jan12 #BeginsWith Door, I believe this is a collection of poems. I don't really read poems, it's like reading puzzles, I don't do them either lol @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

The wonderful Seamus Heaney.
Missed last few nights of poems as I‘ve been too tired to look when I‘ve got home 😔 still enjoyed everyone else‘s!

vivastory I saw him two nights in a row when I lived in Minneapolis in 2012. First night was a poetry reading & second was an informal conversation. Amazing events. 5y
TrishB @vivastory that‘s cool 👍🏻 I heard him read at Ted Hughes memorial service at Westminster Abbey. It gave me goosebumps. 5y
vivastory Who are some of your favorite poets? I know you like Plath & Blake. 5y
TrishB @vivastory I‘ll try anything! Carol Ann Duffy is one of my favs at the moment. Like Sexton, Hughes, Armitage and I‘ve read lots of the new modern style stuff lately that I‘ve generally liked. Collections are a great way to read across different poets. Do you have a favourite? 5y
