Phantom Limb
Phantom Limb: A Gripping Psychological Thriller | Lucinda Berry
18 posts | 22 read | 15 to read
Emily and Elizabeth spend their childhood locked in a bedroom and terrorized by a mother who drinks too much and disappears for days. The identical twins are rescued by a family determined to be their saviors. But there's some horrors love can't erase... Elizabeth wakes in a hospital, strapped to her bed and unable to move or speak. The last thing she remembers is finding Emily's body in their bathroom. Days before, she was falling in love and starting college. Now, she's surrounded by men who talk to themselves and women who pull out their eyebrows. As she delves deeper into the mystery surrounding Emily's death, she discovers shocking secrets and holes in her memory that force her to remember what she's worked so hard to forget-the beatings, the blood, the special friends. Her life spins out of control at a terrifying speed as she desperately tries to unravel the psychological puzzle of her past before it's too late. Phantom Limb is a character-driven mystery that begs to be read in a single setting. The shocking and shattering conclusion will make you go back and read it again. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, Behind Closed Doors, and The Girl With No Past. "Dark suspense at its finest"...Thriller Beats

This is definitely a wild ride. When I thought I had it all figured out, the ending came along and definitely changed it all. I loved the way this story came together and had so many different layers. It was definitely a wild ride and I would recommend this one!

This was a solidly good story (not sure what category I‘d put it in….it‘s not really a thriller, mystery or horror 🤔) that was soooo sad. It was pretty easy to figure out the central “mystery” of why the main character had been checked into a mental hospital after her sister‘s death but that final twist was a doozy! If you‘re into reading about the myriad ways early and severe childhood trauma can destroy people you‘ll like this! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Not extremely twisty, aside from the great ending, but extremely intriguing to read for someone who‘s interested in certain mental health disorders. Still a fun one!

If it says ‘a gripping psychological thriller‘ on the cover, I‘m going to read it! 🤓 #currentread

I liked The Perfect Child by this author but I did have a few issues with the writing. It needed some polish but overall the story was entertaining in a shockingly appalling kind of way. But this twisted little story didn‘t work for me. It also tried to be shocking and appalling but maybe, it tried too hard because it ultimately didn‘t feel believable.

had to run out and get a new bong cause i broke my other one 🥲 Since i‘m reading Phantom Limb, I‘m feeling like “Green Phantom” would be a great name 💚 #bookworm #outsidereading #compass #kindle #kindlepaperwhite

I understood why Emily spent so much time sleeping. It was the closest you could get to death without physically dying

I didn‘t expect another one-sitting read in one day (miserable weather here is perfect for reading)! This #KindleUnlimited title hooked me with its description involving identical twins (one is even named Elizabeth!🤣). It‘s a compelling read with a longish introduction. But past that, the real #nightmare begins. @Stacypatrice I‘d send this to you if I had a physical copy! I‘m curious to see what you think! #ChillingPhotoChallenge #TeamStoker 11pts

ljuliel I‘m glad you found a book you liked so much. I was writing to ask if you think your reading speed has increased any with your Oasis ? I just bought one last week, and have noticed I get through books a bit faster with it. I think it might be the handy buttons to turn the pages. It seems to be faster than the swiping the page with my old Kindle. And with KU , it‘s nice to find a hidden gem that might not get lots of advertisement elsewhere ! 4y
ericarobynreads Yesss!! I loved this one as well! 4y

TorieStorieS @ljuliel I do love my oasis!!! It‘s by far my favorite of all of the kindles!! I‘m not sure if my reading speed has increased... I‘ve always been a pretty fast reader! I try to read at least one KU title a month- going to try to increase that for 2020 though! 4y

Phantom Limb by Lucinda Berry is a heartbreaking tale about twin sisters who survive a horrible childhood just to experience a major loss in their teenage years. Check out my quick review below:

I'm really upset with this book. Only 4 chapters in and I'm 99.99% sure I know the big reveal. I'm going to continue on though and hope it gets better. It could possibly turn into my first DNF ever. 🤦

Having trouble getting into pretty girls so I figured I'd put it aside and try again later. I think this one seems more like something I would be happy with right now.

Wishing this book came with a trigger warning- it's been difficult at times, but I'm hoping for a happy ending of sorts. (Fun fact: the author of this book is a trauma psychologist- likely why this book is so jarring.)
