'A MOST UNUSUAL AND DELIGHTFUL BOOK. DEBORAH INSTALL HAS CREATED A ROBOT TO REMEMBER' - Alexander McCall SmithFunny, touching, charming, wise and a bit magical, this is a novel that explores what it is to be a man, a sentient being and even a parent. A gem of a first novel, especially for anyone who has ever found it difficult to connect with the world. For fans of Nick Hornby's ABOUT A BOY, and WALL-E.Ben Chambers wakes up to find an unfamiliar object - rusty and lost - sitting underneath the willow tree in his garden. Refusing to throw it on the skip as his wife Amy advises, he takes it home. Ben does not want children, or even a job, and now he has found yet another reason to stay in his study and ignore everyone around him.It is only when Amy walks out that Ben realises he has now alienated all the human beings in his life. He has only one friend left. This is the story of an unlikely friendship, and how one man opens his heart to a past he did not want, and a future he cannot lose.

You know the kind of book you hug after you finish it? That was this. 🤖🥰
If you've ever thought man-child + robot toddler = road trip, this is the book for you.
Do not be surprised if you feel like giving the human protagonist, Ben, a kick in the pants at the start.
The humans in the story do end up getting their shit together by the end, and despite some harrowing moments, everything works out for Tang as well. 😊 Light on conflict! 👍🏻

"I found that the mechanics of Tang - how he was powered, whether he ate or slept - did not interest me as much as his PERSONALITY."

Speaking my language, Deborah Install!

"Now, I have to admit that the idea of travelling across the desert in a Dodge Charger with a retro robot and a radioactive sausage dog is not something I would have imagined myself doing. But life takes us in peculiar directions sometimes, and on those occasions the only thing to do is give it a high-five and roll with it." ??

Okay, nobody should be surprised that my hold list hijinks have caught up with me and I now have more #robotbooks / #aibooks out from the library than I can reasonably read at one time...

This book was pure fun and good adventure. Tang is a Robot that shows up in Ben‘s back garden. One problem: he‘s got a damaged cylinder and no one seems to know how to fix him. They travel from the UK to Cali, Texas, Tokyo and Palau and have some interesting experiences. Ben learns about himself through his experiences with Tang. Heartfelt and sweet.

Delightful!
Ben is living in his childhood home with his loveless wife when one morning the wife tells him there is a robot in the garden and he needs to deal with it.

The custom, obsolete, pieced-together robot, Tang, acts like a temperamental toddler.
He and Ben go on a road trip to find his creator.
Charming, endearing story. I really liked it.
If I were Reese Witherspoon I would produce the film 😁

This has been on my TBR aver since I picked it up for the #hyggeswap back in September for @Phancatherine I found it at Chapters and it was only $2 so I had to buy it. This is my most anticipated December read, for day 1 of the #DecInBooks17 photo challenge, hosted by @bookisglee ❤️

danibolahood I love going through the last copies bins at chapters! It's always so exciting when you find something you've been looking for 😁 6y

I tried to do a "T" for Timewalker, but it was an epic fail...lol...this is my haul from BO in a weak moment. The books on top are: Animal Envy, Behold The Dreamers, The Autobiography of us.

Once in awhile, a special book finds you just when you need it most. I needed this book. I needed Tang. To have something so endearing, so happy, and just plain adorable come along and lift my spirits and warm my heart was entirely unexpected and welcomed. Five stars.

I am LOVING this book so far. If it wasn't for work, I'd be finished already. Hmph.

Now this was a fun book that turns surprisingly serious about a man who finds a robot in his garden and begins a quest to search for how he got there. Install takes a very serious shift in the storyline that makes this incredibly original.

Oh, I think I'm going to like the sense of humor in this one! After Smoke, I needed something light and happy.

This was so delightful and heartwarming and exactly the sort of pick-me-up we all need now and then. I spent a lot of time saying, "awww", laughing out loud, and just generally being in love with the characters and the story. If you liked the film Wall-E then you'll probably be right into this book.

Sweet.charming tale. In a world of super android perfection,Tang is a relic, as ancient as a dinosaur. So when dilapidated Tang appears in Ben's garden, Ben does the obvious...he journey's around the world (much to his wife's dismay) to find the parts to fix Tang. Simply adorable 🤖

A quirky tale of a man who saves a little robot & in the process saves himself. Cute & funny: a light-hearted easy read.

Still not sure how I feel about this book. I started it recently and it's not quite what I expected. I think I was expecting more sci fi elements. Also the main character hasn't been fleshed out enough so I don't relate to him. Does it get better? Should I keep reading?
