I somehow missed reading these stories when I was a kid but I love the movie adaptation. I had no idea that these stories were a collection of folk stories/urban legends and not original stories from the author, which I found somewhat disappointing as I‘d actually already heard a good amount of the stories before (the calls coming from inside the house, hook hanging on the car door, etc). I also felt like many of the stories just sort of end ⬇️

candc320 Cont‘d: abruptly without really any ending. I wanted more from so many of these super short snippets of stories! I will say the narrator did an excellent job of creating a creepy, uncomfortable feeling and I found myself unnerved a few times listening to him cackle or scream. I can definitely see how these stories would terrify a person if read as a kid and I‘m glad I finally experienced it! 🌟🌟🌟 9mo

Overall, a pretty ok read though I enjoyed the creepy and haunting illustrations more! Now, I'm ready to watch the movie! 😁

I was too freaked out to read these as a kid--so here I am reading them as a young adult who loves supernatural and supernatural horror. Still...
I DID have to put this down and pick up something else when I was reading it at night 👀

The Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark collection is an awesome collection of tales that ranges from a little humorous to completely horrifying for readers ages 8-12.

With the film coming out this year, I just had to get my hands on copies so I could re-read them! I am so glad that I did!

Time to lose more sleep! And this time, as an adult!

I can‘t find my originals anywhere 😭 (probably because they terrified me, so I hid them in the best places I could think of as a kid... and it clearly worked 😂😂)

...and with the upcoming movie, I need to refresh! Anyone else excited?!

I read these all the time when I was a kid. Literally all the time. I'm still a little surprised by some of the stories that are in here (the hearse song). I wish my library had the originals with the super creepy illustrations. #scarystories
