7 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
For the first time ever, the inspiring, infuriating, and utterly insane story of comics, graphic novels, and manga is presented in comic book form! The award-winning Action Philosophers team of Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey turn their irreverent-but-accurate eye to the stories of Jack Kirby, R. Crumb, Harvey Kurtzman, Alan Moore, Stan Lee, Will Eisner, Fredric Wertham, Roy Lichtenstein, Art Spiegelman, Herge, Osamu Tezuka - and more! Collects Comic Book Comics #1-6.

Mehso-so

This was more than so-so but wasn't a pick. The authors cast a very wide net and offer a lot of interesting information about the history of the comic industry. The narration and illustrations were entertaining throughout. Sometimes the scope seemed a little too wide, leading to surface-level coverage on several topics and creating something that was hard to follow at times. #comic #history #nonfiction

Deftly researched and just as entertaining, the history of comics comes to vivid life with a level of care and appreciation that only a comic insider could bring.

Yesterday I spent my day immersed in the history of comics. I'm not a fan of comic books but I did enjoy revisiting so many characters from my childhood. And I also found out that Popeye got his name because he's pop-eyed 😵
