pickFantastic, read the whole thing in about 30 hours. Girl is raised by aunt and uncle in hiding because her father is coming to kill her, like he killed her mother. Or maybe that's not exactly it. Couldn't put it down. 5 out of 5.
pickBook 5/150 for 2017. 3.75/5 ⭐️. A basic good mystery/thriller I picked up on sale on audio due to the narrator, Julia Whelan, being one of my absolute favorites (this is my 15th audiobook narrated by her). I figured out the mystery before the reveal (I usually do), but this did not diminish my enjoyment of the tale. Well narrated (as per usual with Whelan's work) and well written & paced, interesting characters & a good story.
pickA really good psychological mystery. I did figure out what was going to happen, but I don't think it was glaringly obvious, so the journey to the ending was still a delight to read. Not too scary, but there's a lot of great tension/suspense built through the switching perspectives (some chapters are in the present, mostly through Melanie's perspective; others are in the past and mostly from her father's perspective). Oh, and Happy Halloween! 🎃
I picked this up a few months ago during a sale on Audible, mostly because Julia Whelan is among my favorite audiobook narrators. I wasn't expecting all that much (other than a bit of mystery/triller candy), but it is SO good so far! If you're looking for a Halloween-appropriate read, this is definitely worth checking out.

The story moves pretty quickly as the author folds the time just before and up to the crime committed into the present. I didn't figure anything out until it was revealed. This turned out to be a great random pick from the library. 4⭐️

pickMichael Kardos pens a thriller with enough character to keep literary readers interested and enough suspense to keep it thrilling. There is plenty of humor, too. No spoilers in this review, but hats off to you if you guess the end before the final chapter!
