Five Feet Apart
Five Feet Apart | Rachael Lippincott
Soon to be a major motion picture in March 2019! In this moving story thats perfect for fans of John Greens The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complicationthey cant get within five feet of each other without risking their lives. Can you love someone you can never touch? Stella Grant likes to be in controleven though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions. The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldnt care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, hell turn eighteen and then hell be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals. Wills exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesnt feel like safety. It feels like punishment. What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

4.5 stars. This is a very moving story that I found out later was loosely based on a real couple. The writing is sweet & well formulated and the narrative moves smoothly. I don't very often tear up at books, but this one got me right in the feels. It's not overly dramatic or morbid, but paints a realistic, non-cutesy picture. Five Feet Apart tackles the topic of terminal illness with tact and with emotion in a very balanced way. A VERY good read!

Stella and Will have cystic fibrosis, they have spent their entire lives in and out of hospitals due to their weak lungs. Stella will soon get new lungs if she can keep them clear from infection. Will already has an infection and has lost hope. They are being forced apart but their connection grows and they just want to be together. If you like books that are sad/heartfelt then this ones for you! This is a fast paced book, you never losing interest!

MissYaremcio This book looks sooo good! I will have to give it a read! Thanks for the amazing review! 4d

Sobbing! I watched this movie on a plane a couple months ago and decided I had to read it. It's pretty much identical to the movie, dialogue and all, but it's such a sweet and heartbreaking romance. You want nothing more than their happiness, but it outlines the sad truth of living with a disease like cystic fibrosis.

KarenUK My husband has CF, and although I don‘t usually go for much YA, I have this on my TBR.... just not sure if it will be too upsetting for me.... 3w
Kaylamburson I completely understand that. It's always hard to know what will be triggering to someone else, and there are lots of sad and difficult moments. But without giving too much away, there's also hope and characters coming to terms with their situations and figuring out the best way to move forward. @KarenUK 3w

Post catchup #2
Good but I liked Zac & Mia by A.J. Betts more. Compairing the two stories, this one just felt surface-y, lacking character development apart from the illness.

I‘ve read a lot of books. I‘ve cried to a lot of books too, but not as much as this book. Five Feet Apart is beautiful. It has that first love story that I always crave and this author found a new way to rip that out of my reach. Yes, there is loss, but there‘s also beauty.

This book was SUPER good! It is a sad/happy kind of book about 2 people who have lung problems, and they are in love with each other. But, they have to be 6 feet apart at all times, otherwise they could die. Read this book to find out if they get together or not!!! Totally recomend it!!!

I liked this book more than I thought I would. I didn‘t know much about cystic fibrosis and this book was extremely informative and very interesting. I have learned from reading this how immensely horrible this disease is and how heartbreaking it can be. I found this book to be sad, but inspirational and full of wisdom. #booked2019 #booktomovie

This is a sweet book. I saw the movie first and it is absolutely faithful to the book. It‘s an easy read with likable characters. It helps raise awareness about cystic fibrosis in a way that doesn‘t feel like an educational novel, but a heartfelt story about two kids in love. #fivefeetapart

I personally loved this book. I found a few parts here and there were predictable, but overall I would have never guessed the ending. Five feet apart is crazy emotional and amazing. If you are skeptical about reading this book I'd say give it a try.

As a nurse, I had to suspend some of my disbelief regarding how these characters behaved in the hospital.I can tell you now, there‘s no way you can just run around and visit the NICU.Aside from that, I found the story quite touching. Compared to “The Fault in Our Stars,” which has some similarities, I felt like these teens were much more realistic in the way they talked and the decisions they made. The ending even made me tear up a little.

I was unsure about this book for all about 3 chapters but the fun and sarcastic banter between the characters was what drew me in and next thing I know, I ended up falling in love with Stella and Will and being able to read their struggle with not just CF, but what the actual disease does to everyone in their lives.
