Soon to be a major motion picture in March 2019! In this moving story that’s perfect for fans of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complication—they can’t get within five feet of each other without risking their lives. Can you love someone you can never touch? Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions. The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals. Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment. What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

As a nurse, I had to suspend some of my disbelief regarding how these characters behaved in the hospital.I can tell you now, there‘s no way you can just run around and visit the NICU.Aside from that, I found the story quite touching. Compared to “The Fault in Our Stars,” which has some similarities, I felt like these teens were much more realistic in the way they talked and the decisions they made. The ending even made me tear up a little.

I was unsure about this book for all about 3 chapters but the fun and sarcastic banter between the characters was what drew me in and next thing I know, I ended up falling in love with Stella and Will and being able to read their struggle with not just CF, but what the actual disease does to everyone in their lives.

The only thing worse than not being able to be with her or be around her would be living in a world that she didn't exist in at all. Especially if it's my fault.

What a great story to just sit down on a raining day and take in. I enjoyed all the characters and the story line. Especially because I have never heard of this disease and the struggles with having Cystic fibrosis. Can't wait to watch the movie.

So I‘m never one to see the movie and then read the book but well I‘m not perfect. I fell in love with the movie so I tried the book out and I cried just as hard as I did in the theater. This is an amazing book and movie. It‘s just amazing. Makes me feel really lucky to be healthy and not to take things for granted.

it's the story of two teens, one (she) with 𝘊𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘧𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘴 and the other (he) with 𝘉. 𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘢. I have to admit, this was the first time knowing of such illnesses, so yeah, I was very interested to know more about it. They have to stand at least six feet apart at all times or risk killing themselves while being in love with each other (forbidden romance).⁣ 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I have a LOT of feelings about both this book AND the movie adaptation (although maybe I should say this screenplay, book adaptation, and subsequent movie adaptation? There are many layers here). "Five Feet Apart" is a fast paced YA romance where both of the main characters are dealing with CF, having to stand at least six feet apart from each other at all times. Despite this rule, Stella and Will still seem to fall for each other as they both deal with their own health issues and the restrictions CF brings them both.

ShyBookOwl I'm so fascinated by this. My mom and her brother have CF and growing up in the 70s keeping patients apart was not a practice. They stayed in wards together and with other CF kids, and even went to a CF camp! I told her about this practice a few years ago and she shrugged it off. They'd never stay away from each other now. 2mo
WriterAtHeart @ShyBookOwl - Interesting! Now that I've read this, I was curious about life with CF and wanted to do some research- especially when medicial guidelines change over time. Thanks for sharing! 😁 2mo
ShyBookOwl @WriterAtHeart No problem! I think they were sicker as children and I do wonder of it had anything to do with close proximity... but it's not as if they aren't sick now, living in separate cities. I'm sure the research is out there, but my information is all anecdotal and from what I've witnessed in my family. 2mo

April 1, 2019 Hello everyone. I know it has been a while since i posted a book. There are always so many books out there in the bookstore and so little time. I have been watching out for some good picks. I saw the movie Five Feet Apart a week after it came out and oh my... i cried at the end. In addition, since i saw the movie, I HAD TO BUY THE BOOK OF COURSE. More updates on the book later 😜

This book was great. I saw the movie and seeing it made me want to read the book more. I literally cried in the theater and cried well reading this book. It is so heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. I love the characters of Will and Stella and wish their story was not so tragic. This was a great addition to books about illnesses and I hope this book raises awareness about Cystic Fibrosis.

I guess I was comparing it to The Fault in our Stars. And Everything, Everything and it just didn‘t live up to those for me. It was a cute story and I did learn about cystic fibrosis reading it. I read it for the ATY challenge prompt #22 - a book with a number in the title. #ATY2019 #aroundtheyearin52books
