Drowned: A Mermaid's Manifesto
Drowned: A Mermaid's Manifesto | Theresa Davis
2 posts | 1 read | 7 to read
"Theresa Davis's work revels in searching for the strength to be found in armor chinks. Every aspect of this book bears the standard of a regiment at war with the interior, fighting battles with loss, depression, and the lover that will not recede, battles you are not certain she will win. Sometimes you lose in Davis's world. Always you must understand why you lost. With her life and words Davis has filled the belly of the world, kissed its lips, been crushed in its undertow... all in her effortless tongue. Theresa Davis the Poet recorded these expeditions with her eyes open, always searching for answers. Theresa Davis the Knowing, the Hopeful, the Person, the Loving has come out of the other side with a testimony worthy of any church worshiping any religion that truly knows what it means to be alive." - Scott Woods, author of Urban Contemporary History Month & We Over Here Now

Pickpick

I was a little reluctant to pick up poems by this spoken word poet because her performances are so powerful that I worried merely reading wouldn‘t pack a punch. Silly me. These poems were amazeballs and the collection works very well as a unified whole that doesn‘t arise in her performance. #BlackHistoryMonth

This panel was such a great surprise!!! Joshlyn Jackson and Janet Metzger talked about narrating books and a local storyteller (and librarian!!!) David Russell told a story that had a room full of people in hysterics. Finally, Theresa Davis, a spoken word poet performed a poem that had everyone first in tears then on their feet with applause!!! ❤️ Decatur Book Festival #DBF2018

Kappadeemom I 😍😍 Joshlyn Jackson! 6y
