"Everyone knows a rancher in possession of a large spread needs a wife." Lacy Williams is a USA Today bestselling author of the acclaimed Wyoming Legacy and Cowboy Fairytales series. About Cowboy Pride: First impressions count. Liza Bennett has two missions in life: keep the family's shop afloat, and ensure her shy sister finds love. Sparks fly when she meets rancher Rob Darcy at a town dance, but when she overhears him insult her, she vows to put the man out of her mind. Rob Darcy is instantly attracted to the vivacious Liza but a lack of social graces and the promise he's keeping ruin his chances of winning her. Once jilted, Janie Bennett is appropriately gun-shy of falling in love again. But she doesn't seem to be able to help herself when she meets charming Nathan Bingley. Bingley desperately wants a wife and family of his own. Can he trust that Janie returns his feelings? When Janie is injured in a spring storm, she and Liza are sequestered on Nathan's ranch. Hearts and emotions get tangled, but will first impressions prove true, or false? Cowboy Pride is a Wild West version of Pride and Prejudice with dual love stories.

Rob Darcy??? Seriously you wrote a western Pride and Prejudice and you called him Rob. One the many things that made me cringe while trying to read this #biglibraryread 🤯

Ddzmini Omg really so jealous 😳📖 6y

Not my usual genre, but always glad for a #biglibraryread

Oh, boy. This book was not for me. Lots of casually sexist language, lots of typos, and just not great writing. I will admit I got a bit choked up during the proposal, but I expect that‘s because I love Lizzie and Darcy so much, I want them to be happy even in a bad adaptation. Another bummer #biglibraryread

Im almost at 9 hours of #24in48!

Not my cup of tea. There were a lot of typos and consistency errors in this ebook (genders of side characters swapping, backstories feeling flimsy). I don't like these sort of romances that the end result is marriage and honestly, their romances felt forced to me. Of course you're going to feel something for someone who saved your life (Janie) and there was zero chemistry between Darcy & Liza, I felt. (Continued in comments)

#24in48

night_shift A lot of the plot points that weren't due to life & death circumstances were due to lack of proper communication, which is one of my pet peeves and such a cheap ploy. 6y
GypsyKat Ugh. I get so sick of lack of communication or miscommunication as a plot device. 6y
night_shift @GypsyKat SAME. It's the worst 😡 6y

Just getting up and starting the #24in48 readathon! I've got a lot of cleaning to do this weekend, so I might even get close with audiobooks!

Anyway, the hour 6 challenge is the first line of something you're reading. I'm almost done with this now, but there you have it!

Anyone else reading this besides @drbethandherkindle and me? I‘m not sure how they choose these books for the #BigLibraryRead. This is a P&P retelling, with a cowboy twist. It was fine, fairly true to the original, but in Wyoming!

night_shift I'm reading it. I've never read P&P, but I'm enjoying this so far. 6y
robinb 😂😂😂 6y
CSeydel Oh funny! I saw it advertised on my library app, but I just glanced at the cover and thought “nope!” But now I‘m intrigued. (edited) 6y

hes7 I‘m hoping to have time to read it soon! 6y
Pamwurtzler @CSeydel the cover is definitely misleading. 6y
CarolynM 😂😂😂 P&P is the literary gift that keeps on giving. I love the idea of this, I think I need to read it! 6y

If I‘d have know before, I would have lead you all in discussion!

sammisho Debating on reading this or not! 6y
CrowCAH @sammisho I agree! Not too often do I read the adaptations, since the original is so good, but this would be an interesting interpretation! 6y
sammisho @CrowCAH I am usually disappointed by adaptations! Why adapt a perfect novel? 6y

I usually miss the #biglibraryread and end up reading the books solo later, but not this time! Despite the mockings of certain family members, I have downloaded this and am ready to read!!

Pamwurtzler Yes yes we mocked. But, I downloaded it too! 6y

A bit of a jumble, not going to lie, but I do appreciate Williams' take on a western retelling of Pride and Prejudice.

She wrote some great Darcy monologue that reminded me of the Joe Wright film with Mathew McFayden - my favorite Mr. Darcy -

Hmm, a romantic cowboy retelling of Pride and Prejudice for the next #biglibraryread. I really hated the last one they chose, and I really don‘t understand how these books are chosen or why, but I may give it a shot. What do y‘all think? Has anyone read this author or have any insight on the story behind the Big Library Read?
#libby

VeganCleopatra I'm always confused by the picks too. And are the picks regional or countrywide? 🤷‍♀️ No idea about the book or author, sorry. 6y
Redwritinghood I don‘t get their picks either. This doesn‘t seem like something I would want to read. 6y
LibrarianRyan If they get a big library read grant they have to pick one of the Grant books. Normally a selection of about 10 to choose from. We used to pick our own and tried to choose books most people wouldn't have read. Read out of their comfort zone. 6y

hes7 Yeah, this seemed like a really random choice to me. 6y
parttimedomestic @VeganCleopatra it is country wide as far as I can tell. 6y
parttimedomestic @Redwritinghood Yeah, I‘m all of going outside of my comfort zone, but this doesn‘t look great. 6y
parttimedomestic @LibrarianRyan Oh, I didn‘t realize that was a thing! Thanks for the info! 6y
