Faithful Spy: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Plot to Kill Hitler
Faithful Spy: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Plot to Kill Hitler | John Hendrix
8 posts | 12 read | 8 to read
Interweaving handwritten text and art in his signature style, John Hendrix tells the fascinating story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his fight against the oppression of the German people during World War II. Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor and theologian who was shocked to watch the German church embrace Hitler's agenda of hatred. He spoke out against the Nazi party and led a breakaway church that rebelled against racist and nationalist beliefs of the Third Reich. Struggling with how his faith interacted with his ethics, Bonhoeffer eventually became convinced that Hitler and the Nazi Party needed to be stopped--and he was willing to sacrifice anything and everything to do so.

Here's my summer. Not pictured (because they're on the Kindle, or will be): the tagged book, Code Name: Butterfly, and Dear Martin. This is gonna be an adventure. Good thing I snagged a book on speed reading too!

Pickpick

A graphic novel for young readers, a true story of a resistance fighter in wwii. It had a lot of good information and would be good for someone learning about the war and its complexity.

Tamra Thank you for the suggestion! 5y

I tried, I really did but this was just too religious for for me. It's a true story about one of the assassination attempts on Hitler. It's not quite a graphic novel more illustrated non fiction. It's just dry and all about one mans faith and how that lead him to fight against wrongs. It was just boring and they hit so many nails about faith in God it overshadowed everything else. I didn't care for it so DNF. But josh is excited about it.

Nebklvr Hmmm....read some about Bonhoeffer. He was a theologian but came from a family of nonreligious academics. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Nebklvr he did. That's in the first part. Also how his family didn't understand where his religious bent came from. 6y
