The Enchanted Castle
The Enchanted Castle | E. Nesbit
11 posts | 14 read | 13 to read
Three children discover an old country estate during their school holidays. When they're exploring it they come upon a mysterious young girl claiming to be a fairy princess. She shows them the castle's treasure, including a ring that will turn you invisible. But no one is more surprised than she when she slips it on her finger ... and disappears! The ring is indeed magical, and the children waste no time finding out what else it can do.

I‘m sure I can‘t be the only adult who dreams of stumbling upon magic items in the most random ways 💛

#bookhaul part 1/3 from used book sale, classic lit edition.

No idea if I'll like the Conrad or Racine but they were way too pretty to leave behind.

Pretty sure I read the Nesbits as a kid but can't quite remember.

BookwormM I loved 5 Children and It as a child 5y
llwheeler @BookwormM 👍😁 I am curious to read it and see if I did read it as a kid. I know I read a couple of hers but can't remember which ones... 5y

marleed The Poetry of Robert Frost is one of my favorite possessions. As a kid I memorized the Fire and Ice poem. (Why as a kid I‘d pick that poem may say things about me I don‘t want to know! But I can still recite it!). My dad was so impressed that he bought me Frost‘s book of poems and I‘ve always kept it. 5y
llwheeler @marleed that's a great story! A real treasure 🙂 5y
batsy Great finds! I have a Twentieth Century Classic edition of Rebecca 🙂 5y

Reading this one again is in order. I just had a rambunctious conversation over if this is actually a classic with my mum. It says it right on it. #building #maylovesclassics @Bambolina_81 @Sarah83

Grrlbrarian Also, it‘s only 99 cents on Kindle for anyone who hasn‘t read it! 👍 6y

Part of my ulterior motive in reading this book may have been to listen to this #podcast episode about it... 😇

I found this podcast about the YA fantasy of my (and the hosts') childhood last month while I was rereading Tamora Pierce. Now it's got me on a kick of rereading all kinds of things! #kidlit #fantasy

This #kidlit classic has been on my list for a while, so I'm glad I finally picked it up. Published in 1907, it follows 3 siblings and a friend as they spend the summer discovering a mysterious castle, magical objects, and unintended consequences. My library edition has fantastic illustrations as well.

rubyslippersreads I have another one of her books on my #litsyclassics list: 6y
batsy So pretty! And that one sounds great, @rubyslippersreads #stacked 6y

From the moment I was born, my father has filled my life with stories. The books he read as bedtime stories to myself and my two sisters every night for years, the family stories of grandparents, great grandparents, and even further back where an indelible aspect of my childhood. This love for stories has grown with me for my entire life, and I will forever be grateful to an amazing father.
