Camp Midnight
Camp Midnight | Jason Adam Katzenstein, Steven T Seagle
8 posts | 15 read | 5 to read
Ben 10 and Big Hero 6 creator Steven T. Seagle returns to comics with New Yorker Magazine cartoonist Jason Adam Katzenstein for a new graphic novel! Reluctant Skye is accidentally sent to the wrong summer camp. Not wanting to please her "step monster," Skye is dead-set on not fitting in. That won't be a problem, as everyone at Camp Midnight-with the exception of fellow camper and fast-friend Mia-is a full-fledged monster! The perfect book for fans of Raina Telgemeier's Smile, but wish it had more bowls of gooey eyeballs.

#RiotGrams #Comics
My collection. I've read some and others are still on my #TBR.

Suzze Wow! I've just recently come into the comics game, and I haven't yet bought one. 7y
Allietaylor16 I loved Ghosts! 7y
TheBookAddict @Suzze I used to read Japanese graphic novels when I was a teen and then stopped. I picked up comic books early last year and I just enjoy them. I haven't read many, but they're very entertaining. I enjoy examining every drawing and finding little things the artist drew in. 7y

TheBookAddict @Allietaylor16 I haven't gotten to that one yet, but plan to read it soon. I've heard so many great things about it. 7y
Suzze @TheBookAddict ❤ I shelved a ton of Manga in my kids/teen bookseller time. I was never tempted, but the American stuff really draws me in. 7y
TheBookAddict @Suzze that's good. I like all kinds of comics and graphic novels. Do you have a favorite so far? 7y
Suzze @TheBookAddict My two faves are Giant Days and Phoebe and her Unicorn. 7y
TheBookAddict @Suzze awesome! I haven't read Giant Days yet, but Phoebe and her 🦄 is wonderful. So funny! 7y

I liked this snarky kid's graphic novel more than I expected.

Seagle's text made me laugh. Katzenstein's use of color & shadows is interesting & eye-catching. I dug the messages conveyed: no one is wholly monstrous (and no one is without a monstrous side) -- and everyone's on a quest to be comfortable in their own skin.

The characters are imperfect, but that's the nature of the story. And there's one skinny-dipping scene that's a little weird.

This middle grade graphic novel was a fun short read. Skye is accidentally sent to the wrong summer camp and must process her anger, fear, and prejudices. And face the supernatural.

Cute, middle-grade graphic novel about being yourself. I'll pass this along to my nephews.

Steven T. Seagle's return to comics is a great mix of his more adult comic work, with his kids TV stuff.

Free Comic Book Day at Fat Jack's Comicrypt in Philly was 😍😍😍 and Camp Midnight is the graphic novel you should buy every slightly morbid middle-grader in your life, IMO
