The Deeds of the Disturber
The Deeds of the Disturber | Elizabeth Peters
An Egyptologist investigates a death at the British Museum in this charming historical mystery by the New York Timesbestselling author of The Painted Queen (The Denver Post). Back in London after an archaeological dig, adventurous sleuth Amelia Peabodyrather like Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes and Miss Marple all rolled into onediscovers that a night watchman at the museum has perished in the shadow of a mummy case (The Washington Post Book World). There are murmurings about an ancient curse, but a skeptical Amelia is determined to find an all-too-human killer. Soon, shes balancing family demands, including the troubles of her precocious son, Ramses (aka Walter), with not just one unsolved crime, but two . . . From a recipient of multiple honors including the Mystery Writers of Americas Grand Master Award, this murder mystery set in Victorian-era England is a witty, rollicking, and deeply satisfying romp (Entertainment Weekly) in a jewel of a series (The New York Times Book Review).

The Emersons are back in England and have been pulled into a crime which includes a mummy in the British Museum as well as an Ancient Egyptian Priest.
Delightful as usual though I did miss the usual Egyptian setting.

I love this series! This installment was a little different as the entire story took place in England, not in Egypt. It explored British classes, immigrants, and museum life and lore, while giving lots of classic Peabody-Emerson family look-ins. Interesting mystery with a helpful wrap-up at the end!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘m really trying to get back into my #unreadshelf books right now as the libraries are closed and no ebooks I want are available!

CarolynM I love Elizabeth Peters's books❤️❤️❤️ 4y

Finished this book with my morning coffee today. Had to go back and find this particular page because it was a moment of great writing 🙂.

And that aside, I can‘t wait to start on the next book in the series since the protagonist and her family will be returning to Egypt (although the London break was nice).

BookBelle84 I love Peabody! Such a great character. 5y

A good installment in the adventures of Peabody, Emerson, & Ramses, but I will say I didn‘t enjoy this one quite as much; Peabody & crew are strongest in Egypt. I liked watching Ramses figure out how to deal w/his awful cousins. But the jealousy subplot felt forced & out of character-just a play into the trad romantic storylines that doesn‘t fit this very untrad duo. Overall a good story, but not up to the usual standard of the series.

bookandbedandtea I completely agree with every word of this. Peabody and Emerson are one of my fave #litcouples of all time but this installment falls a little short of the mark for me. I really felt for Ramses in this one. I felt traumatized by his hideous cousins and I only had to read it! 5y

I adore this series so much and this was another delightful addition to it! I laughed aloud at so many different points that my husband started looking at me like I was crazy. A wonderful series and such a fun read!

Mammaletterario My kids look at me like I‘m crazy when I gasp, laugh and audibly react to what I‘m reading these books! I adore this series as well!! 6y
