The Re-enchantment of Everyday Life
The Re-enchantment of Everyday Life | Thomas Moore
7 posts | 1 read | 8 to read
Starting from the premise that we can no longer afford to live in a disenchanted world, Moore shows that a profound, enchanted engagement with life is not a childish thing to be put away with adulthood, but a necessity for one's personal and collective survival. With his lens focused on specific aspects of daily life such as clothing, food, furniture, architecture, ecology, language, and politics, Moore describes the renaissance these can undergo when there is a genuine engagement with beauty, craft, nature, and art in both private and public life. Millions of readers who found comfort and substance in Moore's previous bestsellers will discover in this book ways to restore the heart and soul of work, home, and creative endeavors through a radical, fresh return to ancient ways of living the soulful life.

The “soul” has certain needs that generally are different than the needs of the body alone: comfort, space, conviviality, quiet and things of interest to look at. #QuotsyNov18

Nature directs our attention towards eternity and creates an intimacy with our own personal lives that nurtures the soul.

This lovely book came in the mail today. @Joyfulmimi I bought it because of your review. That and that I can get lost looking at the diamonds on the lake or fascinated with some bug crawling across the driveway.

DrSabrinaMoldenReads Awesome! I think you will love it! Also his other books! 5y
DrSabrinaMoldenReads And indeed correct about the diamonds and the bug!!! 5y

Pickpick

Books like this one mean so very much to me. Its such a blessing to find my life view. Then, I do not feel so alone. I know there are others like me out there but I feel that there are not very many. So often when I share views like Moore‘s, I am made to feel odd; my fault to allow it. I live in “an enchanted world” and “sense a deep significance in things everywhere” (like in this photo) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

merelybookish I like Moore too. At the very least, he makes life more interesting! 6y
Nebklvr Will have to check it out. Sounds intriguing. 6y

To live an enchanted life, we may have to sharpen our perceptions so we can see the spark of the divinity in the most ordinary things.

Silence is not an absence of sound but rather a shifting of attention towards sounds that speak to the soul.
