We Have Come Through
We Have Come Through: 100 Poems Celebrating Courage in Overcoming Depression and Trauma | Peter Forbes
3 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Poetry has always been bound up with ideas of endurance, redemption, consolation, and survival, and it's one of the best antidotes to depression. These poems celebrate individual courage in resisting the ravages of psychological trauma, induced by both external events and mental breakdown.

See that little hole at the top of the card? That's from where it's usually pinned to the corkboard on the back of my study door.

Pickpick

As is usual with anthologies, there are plenty of good poems, a fair few that don't "speak" at all and a small handful to be treasured as talismans against disaster. Perhaps what this book best shows is that, while suffering is universal, each person's experience of it is unique and, beyond a certain point, incommunicable regardless of how adept one is as a writer. I don't find that depressing: I take heart from the fact we still make the attempt.
