Life in the Ocean
Life in the Ocean: The Story of Oceanographer Sylvia Earle | Claire A. Nivola
11 posts | 8 read | 3 to read
Sylvia Earle first lost her heart to the ocean as a young girl when she discovered the wonders of the Gulf of Mexico in her backyard. As an adult, she dives even deeper. Whether she's designing submersibles, swimming with the whales, or taking deep-water walks, Sylvia Earle has dedicated her life to learning more about what she calls "the blue heart of the planet." With stunningly detailed pictures of the wonders of the sea, Life in the Ocean tells the story of Sylvia's growing passion and how her ocean exploration and advocacy have made her known around the world. This picture book biography also includes an informative author's note that will motivate young environmentalists. Life in the Ocean is one of The Washington Post's Best Kids Books of 2012

Never dismiss picture books as if they are for little kids. This #gazingbooks reads at a 5th grade level and is text heavy. It's the story of oceanographer Sylvia Earle. No timeline and few dates, this is more about how mesmerized she was by nature and her experiences exploring throughout her life. The illustrations are rich and provide seek and find opportunities. #everybodybooks

mandarchy @IndoorDame That's great. It's nice to hear that I got someone to read a book. I have had this in my library for a few years and it was part of a grant we won for updating out nonfiction section. I think it was a great acquisition.

“Little Sylvia would sit by herself- very still and for a very long time- waiting and watching to see what was going on in the pond, or under the fallen tree in the woods.”

I really liked reading about this woman and her advocacy for saving the oceans and talking about how climate change is affecting our environment.

I had never heard of this woman before, but after reading this book it‘s impossible not to respect her after everything she has contributed towards ocean exploration. This is a great book for motivating young environmentalists who want to help save the earth.

Life in the ocean by Claire A Nivola is a biography that was published in 2012. This book is about a girl named Sylvia who lived New Jersey and would sit by the pond and stare at the water to see what was going on. Every dive that Sylvia had gone on she came back with a new story and new finds. She thinks diving is living diving into a galaxy.

#TimbitTunes Day 1: Oceanographer Sylvia Earle literally #StartedFromTheBottom in her heroic and courageous attempts to map the the ocean floor. As noted in Fats‘ review: “The book has full-spread illustrations teeming with the colors of earth & sea, inviting readers to dive with Sylvia into the unknown. In addition, Sylvia‘s story is filled with hopes, dreams, adventures, & a never-ending thirst for knowledge.” Her review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-9jj
