Pickpick

So I finished this collection of short stories this morning and I am highly recommending it. There are 32 short stories with wide ranging topics. They are listed in chronological order and watching the subjects and the writing change as we headed into more modern times was very intriguing. I loved some and only liked others but overall it was definitely worth the read. #keepingitshort #readblackwomen

#24in48 #keepingitshort #readblackwomen

Ha! I wasn‘t sure how I felt about this one, until I got to the end. And this was a long played game. 😂 Not my favorite but worth a read. Originally published in 1902

Well, plans changed and I‘m going to try and to get some hours of reading in for #24in48. This short story is my first and it was so good! It was originally published in 1901 and was the story of an escaped slave returning to Virginia from Canada to rescue his wife! This could have been a novel and I would have devoured it.

Tony‘s Wife by Alice Dunbar, originally published in 1899

Well this was an unexpected punch in the gut. Just like the main character, I was lured into a false sense of security only to have it all come falling down...

This story, originally published in 1893 is about a former slave woman who plays the nurse to a man after a fire. Quick, well written and still emotional story!

LeahBergen This sounds great. @Lindy , have you read this?? 6y

#keepingitshort #readblackwomen

This first short story was originally published in 1859 and is an extremely well written story about two cousins. One received two offers of marriage in her youth and now ten years later is dealing with the consequences of that choice while her cousin has stayed by her side after choosing a different path.

This first story has me extremely excited about this collection!

This will be my first book for #keepingitshort! I am continuing the theme from last year and will be reading short stories between books. This book will also be featured in my #readblackwomen theme for this Black History Month!
