Missing Isaac
Missing Isaac | Valerie Fraser Luesse

There was another South in the 1960s, one far removed from the marches and bombings and turmoil in the streets that were broadcast on the evening news. It was a place of inner turmoil, where ordinary people struggled to right themselves on a social landscape that was dramatically shifting beneath their feet. This is the world of Valerie Fraser Luesse's stunning debut, Missing Isaac. It is 1965 when black field hand Isaac Reynolds goes missing from the tiny, unassuming town of Glory, Alabama. The townspeople's reactions range from concern to indifference, but one boy will stop at nothing to find out what happened to his unlikely friend. White, wealthy, and fatherless, young Pete McLean has nothing to gain and everything to lose in his relentless search for Isaac. In the process, he will discover much more than he bargained for. Before it's all over, Pete--and the people he loves most--will have to blur the hard lines of race, class, and religion. And what they discover about themselves may change some of them forever.

I‘m sharing my reading progress for an audiobook I‘m listening to. I started this one on Sunday. I have 6 hours left in this audiobook. This audiobook is 9 hrs so it‘s not as long as the last 2 audiobooks I listened to by Dean Koontz. I like this book so far.

Pickpick

This sweet coming-of-age book has the feel of a Hallmark Movie. When 12-year-old Pete loses his dad in a cotton harvesting accident, he turns to his father‘s African American ranch hand, Isaac, to be a friend and fatherly figure. Then, Isaac goes missing. With the help of a girl named Dovey, who is overcoming her mother‘s death, the pair navigates through the loneliness nagging at their hearts in order to bring healing & love into their lives.

THAT Isaac might be missing, but THIS Isaac certainly is not. I‘d complain more about having to rock my child to sleep at the age of six if it didn‘t mean sweet snuggles and an excuse to read a new book. #kidsoflitsy #missingisaac #IsaacsAreAwesome #bookdreams

Wooohooo! I won the very first raffle I entered with Bookish First! Thanks to whoever here recommended it after announcing the Goodreads giveaways changes, I can't remember who that was now. #bookishfirst 🎉📖🎉📖🎉📖

melyndarae Awesome! Congrats! I just joined the site, I'd never heard of it until now. 6y

Natasha.C.Barnes @Birdsong28 Yay! Thank you so much! 6y
Chelsey I just signed up, but what confuses me is, who would care to read reviews on the first 8 pages of a book? A lot of my favorite books didn't really grab me until halfway in. It seems like poor parameters to base decisions on. 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Chelsey there is a difference between a first impression and a review--you only write first impressions to enter the raffle. After that you can leave reviews on the whole book if you read it. (It took me a bit to figure out...) 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Chelsey I assume the first impression is to make sure you'd put the work into reading the book and writing a review within the timeline they give you. 6y
