Diary of Mary Berg: Growing Up in the Warsaw Ghetto
Diary of Mary Berg: Growing Up in the Warsaw Ghetto | Mary Berg
3 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Mary Berg was fifteen when the German army poured into Poland in 1939. She survived four years of Nazi terror, and managed to keep a diary throughout. This astonishing, vivid portrayal of life inside the Warsaw Ghetto ranks with the most significant documents of the Second World War. Mary Berg candidly chronicles not only the daily deprivations and mass deportations, but also the resistance and resilience of the inhabitants, their secret societies, and the youth at the forefront of the fight against Nazi terror. Above all The Diary of Mary Berg is a uniquely personal story of a life-loving girl's encounter with unparalleled human suffering, and offers an extraordinary insight into one of the darkest chapters of human history.

I still think #bookmail is the best mail.
I know this one is going to be a tough (emotionally) read but I am grateful that I was fortunate enough to receive it. 💛

I‘m doing some research this morning and trying to talk myself into taking down the tree. I also need to clean the house. I have so much to do I don‘t quite know where to start except for that I need another cup of coffee before I can tackle any of it! #professorsoflitsy #historiansoflitsy

TK421 Coffee always helps! 6y
Hollie @TK421 I may need to switch to something stronger when it comes to actually writing up this research! (Whiskey should do it!) 6y
TK421 Whiskey fueled research. What could go wrong!? 😁 6y

ValerieAndBooks I have the Americans in Paris in my TBR! What are you researching now? 6y
Hollie @ValerieAndBooks I‘m writing an article on Drue Leyton Tartiere (an American actress who married a Frenchman and then joined the resistance, saving downed British and American flyers near occupied Paris- one of whom was my grandfather). This is the beginning of the research pile, but hopefully it will get me a start! 6y
ValerieAndBooks Sounds fascinating. Maybe you can share the final article when you‘re finished? 6y
Hollie @ValerieAndBooks I‘ll see what I can do! The Americans in Paris was a good read, she‘s featured in that book. She faked uterine cancer to escape Nazi internment so she could get back to resistance work! 6y
DivineDiana Sounds like a very interesting woman! 6y
Hollie @DivineDiana yes, she was badass! 6y
