Why Storms Are Named After People and Bullets Remain Nameless
Why Storms Are Named After People and Bullets Remain Nameless | Tanaya Winder
9 posts | 2 read | 12 to read
The second collection of poems by Tanaya Winder. . "Ruthless with truth and sonic boomed with radiance, Tanaya Winder is sweet soul medicine." --Richard Van Camp, author of The Lesser Blessed and The Moon of Letting Go . In "Why Storms are named after People but Bullets remain nameless," we find Tanaya Winder in the thick of a beautiful burn, where "pain demands to be felt," where joy or maybe something more decolonial than it bubbles up from the black hole of the past. Winder aims a sociological eye at the gun, the bullet, and the throttle so that we might together constellate differently. "like any good indian woman" is one of my favourite poems to date!" -Billy-Ray Belcourt, author of This Wound Is a World . "Gripping and radiantly moving testament of rezilience, healing, and defiance." - Marcus Red Shirt, Poet, Educator, Youth Advocate, and Spoken Word Artist . 'Why Storms are Named After People...' is a book for dreamers and survivors. Every verse of Winder's brings us out of the past and into the possibility and hope of the future." -Skyler Reed - Editor, Moved By Words

“For any heart that has survived a storm or bullet may you mosaic back together the pieces & embrace the healing that was (and is) always yours.”

Another TBR add thanks to my local newspaper. Too bad I have an apt and won‘t be able to make it to the event.

My first half of the year poetry challenge! I decided to do it by book and poet, so I could really explore some of the poetry I have already. I‘ve read some of the poems in these collections already but my plan is to read each book in the month I‘ve assigned it. I‘m so excited to get into poetry!! #poetrychallenge2018

Natasha.C.Barnes Yay! These look so cool--I hadn't heard of any of them!! I'm also hoping to read a collection for each of my poets, but I couldn't fit the book names on my graphic. 😆 I'll just post them at the beginning of each month. 6y
Alicia @Natasha.C.Barnes thanks!!! I‘m gonna post mine too. Im glad they are new poets to you! I often pick indie poets in my travels, and focus on native authors or poems about the healthcare system bc those are my career interests!! I am excited to see what everyone else picks!! 6y

Okay. One more because the ending of this poem, "resistance," has been haunting me all night.

"you have the right to remain silent
but you also have the right not to be."

This was an impulse buy at the bookstore yesterday, and I'm so glad I did. The poems in this short collection are amazing, and are written from a POV of pain and healing of a Native woman.

GrilledCheeseSamurai Love the cover! 6y
