Dick King-Smith, most famous for his book Babe the Gallant Pig, was an incredibly prolific author of 75-110pg-long children's books. I own a BUNCH of them, many unread. He's a bit hit or miss - someone who has written this many books pretty much as to be - but some of them are such wins that it's worth the effort of sifting through them. This one was right in the middle. I liked the concept, but the story didn't really go anywhere. I also didn't ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) like the way Evan treated his cousin, and I felt bad for old-Evan who says he wants to believe in God but can't. There's a weird sadness to this book that just didn't work for me. But it was only 84 pages long, so it wasn't that long of an investment - but not a King-Smith book I'll probably pick up again.

On his summer holiday, in 1936, Evan meets a strange little girl with a remarkable resemblance to Alice in Wonderland.

Thank you so much, @rubyslippersreads , for this wonderful Christmas parcel! I‘ve never heard of the tagged book (although I have a copy of The Sheep Pig ... aka Babe) and it sounds amazing! I love the cover on the Clemence Dane book (where was I just reading about her? 🤔) and that vintage teen novel looks fab! The dog bookmark is the cutest and I‘ve always wanted one of these Kate Spade cups. 💕 I‘m chewing on a delicious chocolate right now! ⬇️
