A fantastic adventure following the story of Abbie, a deaf girl with a mysterious power, who is traveling across a vast desert to scatter her mothers ashes. In a world of sleeping gods, a broken government, and a fragile peace held in the hands of the corrupt, one youth must find the strength to stand up against evil and save humanity. This story is not about that youth. Its about Abbie, who just wants to get to the mountain range called the Potters Spine, scatter her mothers ashes, and then live out her life in sweet, blissful solitude. Unfortunately, everyone she meets wants to whine at her about their woes, tag along on her quest, arrest her for no reason, or blow her to bits. Journeys are hard on the social recluses of the world.

#31BookPics Day 7: This graphic novel features a #StrongHeroine with a wounded young girl named Abbie with a hearing impairment, traveling alone in the desert, carrying an urn of her mother‘s ashes. Apparently, she is a “parasai” - someone endowed with mighty powers. There are a lot of unanswered questions in this first book including what the title means. A rich fantasy setting, a deaf girl with a giant moa, a tiny desert town where people are afraid of strangers, bullies with supernatural powers... there‘s all kinds of interesting things going on in this graphic novel adventure created by Nilah Magruder. This first volume leaves many questions unanswered, so I look forward to what‘s next. I may seek out her online web comic instead of waiting. #DiverseVoices

Magruder‘s art style reminds me of Disney film animation with manga elements as in the panel above: using simplified facial expressions to show emotion.

A bowl of black bean soup for breakfast while I contemplate the stack of books I‘ve recently read but not yet reviewed on Litsy.

julesG This looks yummy 6y
bookishbunny I feel this. I was away from Litsy for a few months and was only sporadic for a while before that and have been wondering if I should go back and fill in all of the books I read during those times. The task seems overwhelming. And that soup look amazing! 6y

Great suggestion from @bookriot for the 2018 #readharder challenge. I've been enjoying graphic novels and comics lately and am glad I picked this one up.

Such an interesting start. I originally himmed and hawed about getting this and am so glad that I did. There is so much world building and story telling in here. I cannot wait to see if there is another one (Dear Lord let there be more, my soul cannot take it if there is not). If you happen to find this, give it a whirl.
