Monsters Eat Whiny Children
Monsters Eat Whiny Children: with audio recording | Bruce Eric Kaplan
3 posts | 1 read
Dad has warned Henry and Eve: If you whine too much, monsters will eat you. Henry and Eve dont listen, of course. The only problem is, when the monster comes, he cant find the right recipe for whiny childrenand neither can his monster friends! A whiny child salad doesnt work because theres paprika in the dressing. A whiny child cake wont do because the flour spills all over the floor. And whiny child burgers are out of the question because the grill is too hard to light up. Arguments and hilarity ensue. And just when our persnickety monsters decide on the perfect dishthe worst thing of all happens.

Mehso-so

Meh. This should have been funny, but it just kind of came across as creepy and odd. My son likes darkly funny books, and this one didn‘t even make him giggle.

Beckys_Books From this illustration it looks like the children are the monsters 5y

Day 3 of #boardbookbonanza I am pretty sure I have read this book, but I don't really remember reading it. The illustrations are awesome and the story is funny.

I'm going to whine and then shut up. We are under a tropical storm warning. The governor has declared a state of emergency. Some local grocery stores are closing tonight ahead of the storm. The local university has closed for Monday. And as of now our schools are still open. Last year they canceled for thunderstorms. WTH?

DebbieGrillo They will close soon I bet. 7y
Sace I'm sort of hoping. But why wait so long to decide? 7y
tpixie @RestlessFickleBookSlut our schools seem to close when the weather really isn't that bad and stay open when it's terrible- then have an early dismissal, which really messes everyone's schedule up!! 7y

tpixie ( stay safe!) 7y
Sace @tpixie I think that's why I'm annoyed. I hate when they cancel school and really there's no reason. Then when they don't, I show up for work and half the kids don't or I have to deal with the chaos of a last minute early dismissal. And dang it, it messes up my lesson plans. 😂 7y
tpixie @RestlessFickleBookSlut I totally agree!! 7y
Buddys_Momma That is totally ridiculous!! Do what you need to to stay safe!!!' 7y
Sace @Buddys_Momma I suspect they will make a list minute decision. All I can think about right now is the bus drivers and parents of bus riders! They must be even more anxious than I am! 7y
jpmcwisemorgan My undergrad NEVER cancelled! Instant frost bite when you walk outside? Suck it up and get to class! They'd never let a tropical storm get in the way. TBH I think it's better to be safe than sorry because you really don't want people out if there's the possibility of tropical storms. I wish more places would understand that. Be safe! (edited) 7y
Sace @jpmcwisemorgan 😂😂😂 7y
Sace @jpmcwisemorgan you totally just used that awesome iApp edit function, didn't you? So jealous. 😁 And I agree about better safe than sorry. They probably just see the point in making an announcement now since really is won't matter until tomorrow morning. I never understand their thought processes. 7y
ReadingSusan Our schools haven't closed either although every county bordering ours has. They said they will make a decision by five. I don't have kids so it doesn't effect me but I am hoping the city will close tomorrow so I don't have to work. Driving in high wind is scary. 7y
cathysaid @RestlessFickleBookSlut Are you talking about KSU? I'm an instructor there and just got an alert about closing. It's ridiculous. College has become an extension of high school. 🙄 7y
ReadingSusan @jpmcwisemorgan mine didn't either! I used to have to drive 45 minutes to school in tornado warnings and ice. So scary. My husband works there now and I am always telling him CLOSE IT DOWN. It's so scary for commuters especially. 7y
Sace @ReadingSusan I think that's what is making me the most nervous. I'm anxious about driving on a good day. Driving in high winds is not something I want to do. 7y
ReadingSusan @RestlessFickleBookSlut exactly me too. My anxiety is high today. Which I kind of feel bad about since it won't be as bad as if I lived in FL. 7y
AprilMae I have never had to deal with tropical storms since I'm from MN but I have dealt with Blizzards. Living in small town with lots of back roads and farm kids makes calling school early or day ahead impossible in most cases- which sucks. I hope they call your school soon! Be safe! 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks That's crazy!!! 😩😩 7y
Sace @cathysaid I totally agree about college being an extension of high school. I work in a high school and they're always telling us to make sure we are rigorous and I'm cynically asking why? What's the point? 7y
Sace @ReadingSusan that's why I feel so awful whining. What we're dealing with here is nothing like FL (and Texas before that.) 7y
Sace @AprilMaesBookHabit I guess I'm such a planner I want to know NOW but that's not always possible. But seriously, if they called it for thunderstorms in April, this should be a no brainer. 7y
Sace @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks nothing surprises me with the school system. 7y
cathysaid @RestlessFickleBookSlut There really isn't. And I usually ask my students what they think of their high school preparation for college (I teach freshman comp). They tell me how they were warned about more rigorous requirements and expectations, but they get to college and find its not true. 😳 Cancelling college classes doesn't help their perception. Nor does having a former attorney general as our new college prez. 7y
Sace @cathysaid my dad was a college professor. He would be going nuts in the current environment. 7y
Mommamanzi That's crazy! Orlando, Florida here and our classes got closed for only Monday and Tuesday back on Wednesday. I did 5 loads of laundry so at least I know Haiden will be going back to class with clean clothes! Lol 7y
Sace @Mommamanzi well I'm glad I'm not the only only thinking it's crazy to wait so long. But I guess in FL they take it more seriously? Hmmm. Maybe I should be going to the store or making sure I have candles and flashlight batteries. Obvi I'm not taking this seriously enough. 😂 7y
ReadingSusan @RestlessFickleBookSlut but also I feel that we aren't prepared for it. I don't have any idea what to do in tropical storm weather. 7y
Sace @ReadingSusan uh...ditto. 7y
ReadingSusan @RestlessFickleBookSlut I am bracing myself for tornados. Oh how I miss my old house with the basement 😭😭 7y
Sace @ReadingSusan I'm really hoping we don't get any. There's really no safe place in our house. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @ReadingSusan Do you have an interior closet at least? I have a small cottage with a ton of windows so my safe spot is my closet. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan I did use the edit function. I hit send before I was done! 7y
tpixie @Mommamanzi I remember those 5 packed loads of laundry days! Now my 2-3 loads are 1/2 full! 7y
tpixie @RestlessFickleBookSlut bathtub with a mattress over you- for a tornado. 7y
Sace @tpixie 😂 both my bathrooms are exterior rooms. 7y
ReadingSusan @jpmcwisemorgan my pantry is the closest I had but there's only room enough for me and the dog. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @ReadingSusan At least you can get your dog in there! 😉 7y
[DELETED] 3803335244 Stay Safe ❤️❤️❤️ 7y
ReadingSusan @jpmcwisemorgan yep mother in law and hubby are on their own 🤣🤣 7y
Sace @ReadingSusan priorities! 🐶 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @ReadingSusan Seems fair to me. 7y
